Here’s my version of an EDC runt.
    A 3 finger handle with a 2” blade.
Scales are spalted birch and the blade is raindrop Damascus from 15n20 & 1084 high carbon steel.
I tipped the sheath towards the front a little bit to clear the hands access to the pocket and make it easier to grab.10D5815C-9315-4016-A9EA-5207CB551FF0.jpgCF9D3BFF-F6A1-4166-BDA6-BC6F637C1702.jpg80059815-514A-44FF-8FC1-1BD7A7924EF0.jpg11C6D41D-FB54-4EF1-8580-15392C1F12E2.jpgA1DC852C-E13E-4AF5-BE45-E047A2005E29.jpg

That’s amazing! Can you please provide more details? Is the handle made from cholla skeleton? The blade looks like possibly hand chipped obsidian?

Probably somewhere between $40.00 & $140.00, depending on the quality of the materials and assembly 05A39943-9A5A-443F-9413-D2CFA888A3E6.jpg

Update. The tried and true saying that the fastest way to find something is to replace it, still holds true. Actually prefer the non Tanto blade on the new one, but glad to have found the original.

    A beautiful commemorative M7 bayonet.
Made for the M16 rifle but should also fit the M4 carbine. That’s a trophy you should be proud of.

I’m not surprised that you prefer that classic drop point, it’s much more useful for just about everything except maybe stabbing. However, I’m sure you’re relieved to have it back!

Thankfully, I’m not stabbing things on a day to day basis. The new one will certainly be easier to keep sharp. You’re 100% right about finding the original, some things have nostalgic value and my original Runt certainly does. No specific reason other than the fact that I carried it daily for several years, some things are hard to part with.

Here’s a couple questions for my fellow knife loving friends:
Would you prefer a neck knife with scales or without? The obvious advantage of not having scales is less weight and thinner, which is much nicer under your shirt. Another advantage is that since my knives are all Damascus, there’s more visible surface for the pattern.
How important is it to have a lanyard hole in the knife handle?
Last, what dimensions do you think are ideal? I’ve researched these several times over the years and it seems there’s lots that are really too big. I have also found quite a few people who prefer very small blades, even for deer skinning.
    What do y’all think?

Thin scales. I like the look of a raw blade but in hand and use, scales help. Lanyard hole not super important on a small knife, really only care to use one on a handle if I’m going to chop with it. Lastly, I like around 6” overall with 2.5-3” of edge.

So you think 6” is fine for a neck knife. I wasn’t sure if that was too much or not. If the knife is 6” there’s almost certainly another 3/4” additional from the sheath

    Lanyard hole = yes, always.
scales or no - - I don't fully hate paracord wraps, which are light and possibly useful; but I like @THinTX assertion that thin scales are the thing. More visible pattern = nicer. You had a few mostly clear cholla scales that showed the pattern a while back, and I thought those were really nice.
Blade size - - I've settled on 4.5" as my preferred blade length, which for a neck knife is way too big. Hanging off my neck, I'm not sure but probably 2.5" - 3" sounds appropriate. I like looking at smaller blades, but I'm not sure how I'd be using one for anything but opeining boxes.

This is a good size, for reference a quarter is slightly less than an inch.

Thin scales for sure. I would prefer the lanyard hole to be in the sheath so you can freely remove the knife. Also, since it's a functional piece of jewelry, it should be worn over the shirt, on display.

Would a clear resin scale that shows the pattern be possible?
