I'm at the dealership. I brought my truck in because it was making a squeeling sounds when I make a left turn. Sounds like it's out of alignment. So they drove it and hear the sound. They have changed the tires and it's still doing it. They seem to think it may be a rear bearing possibly. The service guy said if that's the case corporate may have to get involved. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Is it under warranty? If so, I don't see why corporate needs to get involved, especially if they've already diagnosed the problem.

When I had my Tacoma I was trying to get the AAL tsb took it to a different dealership and they told me I needed 2 take it to the dealer I bought it from. Which ended up costing that dealership a sale later down the road

I could be wrong, but I cant imagine the laborers came up with the corporate idea. Sounds like that MAY have come down from a service manager.

Might be a good idea to go right to the GM.

Toyota has FST (Field Service Tech) that must approve anything major- I think. Same for my SC. The FST flew into CO a couple of weeks later to approve my warranty work and others.

+1 - did they start a case with Toyota? Usually the Tech diagnoses best they can, if the issue is really abnormal they may start a case with Toyota and request a Field Tech to check it and verify - or assistance on the diagnosis.

Hey Daniel. When I had my front differential replaced, Toyota was going to do the same thing, but I was under extended warranty through Toyota, and it was a common problem (still is). Corporate did get involved, and I was in the office when talking to them. At first they wanted the dealership to pull the axle appart and investigate why my front end was howling like a beat dog and just replace the one part. The service manager said it would take X amount of time and diagnostic time. It was cheaper to just replace the front differential for 2400.00 on their dime.

Like Sean said, a field agent comes or looks at data to see if there may be a common failure or if they can prove something like you were out abusing your new truck. It is a tight process that auto manufactures do.

Hell, feel good about it. It is quality control. Dodge had my truck four weeks attempting to repair my cummins motor that they wadded up and couldn't figure it out. I had to figure it out myself amongst other issues. I was forced into becoming a diesel tech since the local lead diesel tech was a moron and must have been looking for the spark plugs on my diesel motor.

Wrong, diesel tech was looking for the carburetor.......or the left hand diesel exhaust smoke diverter.

Lol. Probably. He wasn't looking at my truck. No loaner either. Never do business with them again on principle alone.

I'm home now and this is what they came up with. They put 2 new wheels from another new truck on the rear of my truck. The sound went away. They then moved my original rear tires to the front and the sound started coming from the front. So they determined that it was in fact a problem with one of my tires. So the tires are the only thing on the truck Toyota doesn't cover. Now I have to go to a certified Michelin dealer and tell them what the Toyota techs came up with and try 2 get them 2 replace my bad tire. If that doesn't work I have to go back to the service dept and show them paperwork that the tire place won't replace said tire/tires and them they may replace them. Ridiculous

The issue isn't as bad anymore. The 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra all have this needle bearing on the drivers side of the front diff. Toyota engineered a newer revision of this bearing (axle shaft slides into the housing through this bearing). East Coast Gear Supply has a bushing that replaces this needle bearing.

Growling noise, metal rubbing noise, and when it gets bad, sounds like a gear set is about to come apart. This usually is around speeds of 25-35 mph that one hears this issue.

Update, I took it to a local tire shop and showed them the paperwork from my dealership. The manager said well I'll have someone drive it and he was acting shady. So 2 of his mechanics said it was in fact the tires. Manager said not a problem he will get in touch with Michelin and they will more than likely replace all 4 tires. So we'll see

Ford use to have a 50 mile limit. If within it you had to take to the dealer you bought from. Not sure if they still do.
