Why isn’t my carpet kit fitting?

I recently bought a used shell/carpet kit off Craigslist. It came off a 2003 V6 RCLB, onto my 2005 V8 RCLB. I bought it mid road trip, so I installed it quick and then took it off to weather strip once I got to my destination.

I stupidly didn’t test the entire kit before putting the shell back on. The kit appears to be sitting flush, but is 1-2 inches too narrow for the plywood to rest in the middle. My 2 options seem to be to remove the shell and take off the bedliner, or to cut and rebuild the plywood/foam/carpet on the slide in parts of the carpet kit.

    Any reasonings, recommendations, or solutions?

I ideally didn’t want to ditch my bedliner, and I’m not home so I don’t have any tools besides the sockets my buddy loaned me.

Photos would be excellent. I can’t imagine the bed box dimensions to be different but anything is possible.

this is about what the overlap looks like, I’m working on getting the other piece in solo. It’s a bit large.

Either your bed is narrower or his was wider for one reason or another. I would be it's the bedliner. You could probably lose an inch between the plastic on both sides. Obviously its a pain, but I would say the best route is to trim the middle piece and rewarp with carpet. It's not that hard with a good staple gun and a roll of carpet from home depot.

    Yes, it's your bedliner.

I bought a rubber mat for my bed because the bedliner is so slippery -- I didn't like things slipping/rolling around so much. I had to trim 3 sides of it because it was too big. It was the correct size -- just not with a bedliner.

Seemed to be the case. It was still a very tight fit, but it’s working now. Not as seamless as I had expected, but it’s working now.

    thanks gents

On every post of mine, I got someone asking for the leftover parts haha

I’ll be holding on to it. It’s for a longbed.
