I have these TRD running boards installed as well and love the looks of them. I do wish maybe they extended out another inch or so as sometimes it's tough stepping onto them to get up to the roof of the truck to tie down the kayaks up top. Otherwise I really like them and don't recall hearing any wind noise.

The TRD boards are roughly 60 lbs for both. Installation is stupid easy (12mm socket is all that's needed).

Box is a bit unwieldy and doesn't quite fit in the 5.5 foot bed, lol...

Got the steps installed over the weekend. Love these things!!! I might might just keep them instead of getting the AMPS if they ever come out.

Surprisingly they aren’t much lighter than the RB20 slims considering the TRD’s are aluminum. Took a side by side so you guys can see the conparison. These are wider but come with the bediner finish. Probably closer to the standard RB20.

My TRD Sport came with those, and found out the hard way not to just jump out of the truck. They're rough as all hell and tore up the back up my legs for the first couple of days. I do wish they stuck out a little further from the side, but otherwise they're pretty awesome.

once you have static boards, your muscle memory and mind memory will come along. for us its very hard to adjust to the auto boards on the 23 platinum. we prefer and like static running boards.

plus its easier to climb up to get snow off without having to unlock/open the door to get snow off the roof and front sometimes.

I’d trade you for the AMPS in a heartbeat if I could haha. I’ve been holding out trying to wait for them, but it’s been over a year.

cant really remove the oem boards right now since they throw codes. once the refresh happens we probably will get a plat w/o the auto boards and avs and go with static boards.

edit: need to clarify, if you remove the oem boards and dont have a chipped plug to fool the bcm, it will throw codes if i remember correctly.

probably along the same lines as removing the oem air dam

What material are the mounting brackets for the TRD cast aluminum running boards made of? Steel, aluminum etc.? Are the brackets mounted to the side or bottom of the boards?

Would appreciate pictures of the bottom of these boards to see if the brackets hang below the boards. And if there is a lip on the boards like go rhino that will collect mud and debris.

    Thank you

@Mattedfred yes post #34 certainly was a great post and helped some but it doesn’t answer the bracket material question. And it’s still not clear to me how the brackets bolt to the boards, or what the underside of the boards look like (construction).

The boards are all aluminum. Board, bracket, everything. I can take pix tomorrow of the underside.

I purchased these running boards in anticipation of my truck being delivered in the next couple of weeks.

    IMG_6630.jpg

Can anyone confirm that has installed these on their truck themselves, if the bolts are already on the truck, or if the hardware kit is necessary?

I believe I’ve read it isn’t needed, but I don’t want to have the truck show up, then have buy bolts. I’m planning to install the day I bring it home.

I installed these myself the day I brought my truck home and can confirm the bolts are already on the chassis mounts. I thought the same thing you do since Sparks Parts says on their site that bolts aren't includes and want to sell you a $40 pack of bolts. Not true!

Installation is stupidly easy and you'll be done in 10 minutes. Watch the back of your calves though after install! I'm STILL ripping the skin off them when I exit my truck some times due to the bedliner material. Hahahah!

Check for any holes that could whistle/howl? Could fill with RTV leaving one for drainage.

What? No whistling/howling here, I have nearly 2000 miles on my rig now. No need.

No noise issues from steps. I installed myself. Like the steps and have been on truck for 4 months.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
Doesn’t look like the oem boards stick out much, I actually want that to punish door dinging assholes around here. Too poor for sliders, the rhino rb10s or 30s might do the trick - but they are basic ugly.

I don't know the exact width, but I can say they do not stick out much at all. At first I didn't like that, but it ended up being a good thing. There's still plenty of space to step up, and you'll ultimately be grateful they aren't any wider. These things will tear up your legs if you skip them when getting out (and don't step far enough past them). Like seriously tear up the back of your calf and draw blood. That being said, I love them.

Agreed. Love them and think they stick out the exact amount I'd want. If there is any additional noise, I can't hear it over my A/T tires.

I haven't had the issue with dragging my leg, but my son did this while getting out of the truck. No blood was drawn, but I believe he learned the lesson of how to get in/out of the truck.

I assume most of you guys don't take your trucks off-road much.

Every running board I've ever had on a truck inevitably got damaged on some 4X4 trail.

I had the dealer take them off my 2023, and I didn't even squabble about getting a price credit for them. I think Tundras look better without them, but that's obviously just my personal opinion.

Have any sweet pics of your 1794 at Moab?

I ran sliders on my Tacoma that were tucked up high. These TRD steps don't hang down as low as your typical tube step, so I suspect you'd hang up on the rear diff or gas tank before they would drag.

I'm not sure how much wheeling you do, but it's typical to go over taller obstacles with your tires, specifically so you don't drag the diffs, fuel tank, or muffler. That puts running boards as the low point when you roll over the obstacles, and the most likely things to get damaged.

That said, I won't be taking my 1794 to MOAB, unless it's to haul '81 Jeep CJ7 that I built for that type of fun. However, I will be using my Tundra on lots of rough 2-tracks where I hunt and fish. I've never been able to keep running boards undamaged in some of those spots.

Boards are 5 3/4" wide at the ends, and 6 1/4" wide at the middle. They stick out from the door roughly 3 1/2" or so.

    Hope this helps!

How do you feel about the sturdiness of these boards? I'm sure they aren't true rock sliders and not being steel, I doubt that they will have the same ruggedness and weight-bearing properties. That said, would they stand up to and protect against rough roads, obstacles (short of rock crolling) and would you be able to use a hi lift jack on them like with steel rock sliders? Both my 4Runners and the 80 have had steel rock sliders but I don't plan to take my Tundra to some of the places or do things that I did with those vehicles so just wanted to get a sense of how others feel about these.

I would absolutely not recommend jacking up your truck by a cast aluminum running board. It might work a few times, but it would eventually crack. It's not just about the material, but how they are attached to the truck.

I have these and they are rock solid in terms of not moving when you step on them, but they aren't a slider, and shouldn't be used like one.

Thanks! Picking up my truck later this week that comes with them so I guess these will be the first thing that I take off and sell :).
