Piece of ply mounted to the back, and the platform hinged to fold up for compartment access? Polo's front shoulders are about 30" so gotta keep the bottom low.


i can put the front leg either on the top corner of the box and support the corners on removable boxes or whatever containers fit int the rear floorboard. 105lb dog. Or, box out the floorboard to support the platform, and give a large open carpeted cubby in front of the underseat enclosed storage. This job is gonna take some filing and shaping.

if i made the platform in 2 pieces, it would help the hinge.

 

@shifty` - I replaced my reservoir and soft hoses a couple years ago. I bought the reservoir at the Rock and noticed the mounting bracket was not as good as OEM but the plastic parts were identical so I swapped the bottles. I bought the hose set with metal lines but only used the rubber hoses because my dealer wanted like $500 for the hose set

I am doing the same right now. Here is my latest picture of my progress. I got the back framed up today and I am laying noise cancelling pads tonight.



I will cut out cubbies in the base when I have everything mocked up.

 

Whats stuffed in the vents? I like it.

I'm thinking 3/4 could handle a 105 lb dog, so imagine ply where the 2x4's are, and boxing the floorboard for a front full width carpeted cubby. Accessible with the platform raised. I'm thinking about the new and improved bullet stop fleece on the back, and maybe some yoga padding covered in bass boat astroturf.

 

Just a sponge from home depot. Make sure there are holes in the sponge for proper ventilation. I am using 3/4 ply and it seems plenty strong. Should be perfect for your dog plus extra.

Did you paint your cluser needles? Seem more orange/red.

 

Used Sharpie Xtreme marker on them. It’s been 7-8 years. LED dash lights.

I think until you hit 300k, it’s not that impressive. Most cars built these days can pull 200k with some TLC.

 

I disagree. Anything after 2010 has too many electronics to be reliable past 100K miles if you ask me

 

I’ve got a fleet of them all knocking on 150k miles with no major problems. Jeep, Ford, GM etc.

 

Maybe it’s just more people neglecting maintenance then….or I’m just full of shit since that’s the more probable option

 

people are becoming less and less mechanically inclined for sure.

 

Most people's engines last with some regular maintenance. It's just everything else around it that falls apart, especially where some of it is just bad design.

 

Well….IT HAS BEGUN!

Removed the air box, drained the radiator, removed PCV to intake manifold hose this pic is of where it goes into the intake


I also unclipped all my coil packs, I wanted to loosen the fan clutch bolts but my prybar has too wide of a wedge on the end and my 12mm wrench isn’t as long as I want it to be decided that’s enough for the afternoon, going to pack the wife and kids up and head to Harbor freight for a narrow prybar and some ratcheting box end wrenches and some dinner if the barbarian horde can maintain their table manners , I’ll pick it up again in the AM to remove fan clutch and the start on getting the serpentine belt out which definitely looks like it didn’t get replaced with the timing belt at the stealership last time so I’ll grab one of those while I’m out too. Then the alternator, move the ac compressor, get timing belt off so I can pull the valve covers off and access the cam seal. Gonna be a great weekend…..I hope

Will do, real test will be off-road, I'm hoping they are hard enough and nothing fails. Around town feels great but I haven't been on the highway yet.

 

That Harbor Freight Icon stuff looks pretty legit. I'm very happy with my Amazon pry bars...I really don't think you need a Snap-On prybar.

 

I actually just bought the cheapo harbus freightimus prybars today for my work box. I don't use them enough to justify having the fancy shit. Hell, a pry bar is a pry bar. Feels guud

 

I have one to take apart a steelcase chair being tossed out at work. Just haven’t found a tote bag big enough to carry home the parts. A hockey bag wouldn’t be inconspicuous.
