Anyone have any experience towing a 7500lb or higher travel trailer with their 3rd gen platinum Tundra? How do you have your WDH setup with your air bags? What WDH system are you running? Lastly, have you had any problems distributing weight to the front axles. If this topic has been discussed already, if someone could repost the link that would be great.
    Thanks,

Getting ready to tow something this weekend, will let you know what the weight etc. is... A three hour tour... a three hour tour... Not sure if hitting the 7.5k mark or not...

    More to follow...

Thanks. My initial test was not very good and I did not have time to tweak my setup before I left. As a result, the weight distribution was not working properly and I had almost 2 inches of lift in the front which made for a very unpleasant and floaty 3 hour drive.

Thanks for the link. I spent a good hour or so reading through it. There is a wealth of information on there! I was more interested in knowing how others are towing with the same truck configuration as mine and what their experiences were--particularly with distributing more weight to the front axles.
    Cheers,

Are you using a weight distribution hitch? You should be able to level the truck using the hitch and it sounds like maybe shifting trailer weight from back to front where possible.

    you'll need bags.
I tow 6k lbs, and it sags pretty good. I installed firestone bags with cradles and no problems.

He has a 3rd Gen, so different suspension setup than yours. Unless your profile is wrong.

    Ohh, i didn't catch that he's a 3rd gen.

I'd still imagine its valid with that weight...i assume he doesn't have the air suspension, or wouldn't be talking about the squat.

I pull a 6k lb trailer with my truck and original suspension and no bags are necessary with a properly adjusted WDH. Even without my WDH it's close to level. Each case is different.

Thank you all for your replies. The Tundra does have air suspension--though you can't control the psi and my WDH is clearly not disturbing the weight properly with the added air suspension. The sqaut is non-existent, it's the corresponding lift in the front that is messing things up. I have since added more spacers to my hitch to see if that resolves the problem (haven't retested yet). I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with the new tunny air suspension and what they have done. I should also mention that I've used this same setup with a 2014 SR5 TRD pro with no problems--but it didn't have air suspension.
    Thanks,

I should probably also mention I'm towing an 32ft 8k TT.

It always gets a kick out of comments about the 5.7 being a big engine. It's the same size as the 350 ci engine was in my 1972 Monte Carlo and we had a Pontiac sedan with a 455 ci engine. The 5.7 does produce a lot more power though.

To be fair, it is a physically large engine compared to pushrod GM V8's, displacement aside.

I think the GM 350 came equipped with lugs to tie the boat anchor rope.

Hey, it could move pretty good! It was exhausting trying to keep it tuned tho, lol. It's funny reading people on here talking about "reliability" problems with modern cars. I always think back to spending a weekend every other month wrenching in the garage trying to keep my jalopies rolling.
