I'm not sure if the images are showing up. I copied and pasted from my google drive.

Basically, the GMC wasn't paying attention and slammed into my 2022 Tundra that has less than 5k miles. The Tundra faired much better than the GMC, but it is still 5k worth of repair and the value of my truck has not plummeted 6-9k on Carvanan and Vroom. Does anyone have any experience claiming diminished value with the insurance? I keep my vehicles a max of 3 years, so I'm going to realize a big lost when it comes time to trade in.

Also, I'm looking to replace the rear bumper with an aftermarket steel bumper. The only bumper that is in stock right now is the DV8 MTO Series rear bumper. Every other bumper has a 14 weeks lead time.

Sucks about the truck. Looks like the Tundra did extremely well.

New York does recognized diminished value and I would be looking to get compensated.

Yes, the truck did amazingly well compared to the GMC. The truck drove just fine with no issue in the alignment and the tailgate closes perfectly fine. I was amazed on how well the Tundra handled the impact and the Toyota Connected Services called 911 for me seconds after it happened.

I will definitely look at filing a diminished value claim or take it up in small claims court. The lady who drove into me claimed that I stopped suddenly and she didn't have time to stop. There was 4 cars that stopped in front of me and she was the only one who didn't stop on time.

I followed this reddit post, and this user has an identical truck with 6k more miles. He sustained $3970 in damages and Geico was offered him $3975 for his diminished value claim.

"My layer told me that the appraiser that he hired said my diminished value claim is $9,800, the repair cost $3970 and after a few months i received a phone call from my layer saying that Geico's first offer is $3,975 for my diminshed value claim... Told my layer i wouldn't mind to get $5000 since the repair cost $3975.... What do you guys think? Should i continue file for a lawsuit? or just take the money? I have a 2022 Toyota Tundra 11,000 miles 4x4 twin turbo trd off road package" from reddit

Yup, it happened in Camp Hill PA. Just bought a home and was renovating the place. I drove less than a block from the house and this happened.

Good thing PA recognizes diminished value as well.

You know you don't have to deal with your insurance company. You can deal directly with her insurance company, then you don't have to deal with getting your deductible back and your rates going up. You can also bring it to YOUR bodyshop not where they tell you to go and get Toyota OEM parts not aftermarket junk.

It happened a few days ago, and I did exactly what you stated. Her insurance company agreed that she is liable for the damages and requested photos for an initial estimate. The first estimate was $3650 and the body shop I usually work revised the estimate to $5000. It just so happen that the body shop is also in the Farmers Insurance guaranteed repair network. Also, they're using OEM parts, probably because the truck is so new and there aren't much aftermarket parts available.

Your truck held up quite well! That Canyon on the other hand looks like half the plastic bits fell out of the motor and onto the road

The GMC's airbags all blown up and coolant fluid was leaking everywhere. Fortunately, the lady seemed perfectly fine and got out of the car before me. I was busy on the phone with Toyota and the police department.

Pennsylvania most definitely is a DV state. You have to show fault to collect. My 17 4Runner TRD PRO backed into rear quarter by kid backing and looking at there cell phone. Fortunate that had police arrive complete report. Obtained video of incident from local business. Completed appraisal of truck without an accident and with accident. Doubled the amount of DV and sent to the parties insurance. Insurance put up every roadblock they could. Finally worked with a lawyer-letter sent expressing desire to settle without court action. Took another month, received DV plus additional 2500 and lawyers fees.

latter December 2021, Traded for my first Tundra! The accident was on the car fax. Had the 4Runner Five years, 55k on it and traded in at more then what I paid new for it

That sucks. I’d for sure look hard at lawyer up, especially if you know have one already. Also I know the focus has been the truck damage. But she hit you hard. Pay very close attention to how you feel. Neck and spine issues have a way of showing up later (I’m a therapist). Things to consider, damage to truck, injuries, diminished value truck, time off work, and time spent dealing with this. I’d track your time.

The frames and height on trucks are your friend in car vs truck collisions. 15 years ago my 2001 Silverado got rear ended by a Mazda car. It sustained a broke tag light and that was all. There was nothing left of the front end of the Mazda. It left the site on a flatbed and in plastic bins

In a rear ender it is far far better to be on the reciving end and not the giving end. That'll repair just fine and I bet you really won't see significant diminished value. Had similar on my 2009 Tacoma and in the end when I sold it, it mattered not.

since the vehicle running into your rear is usually diving under your tail, you might want to double check your hitch assembly for any damage.

Sorry about your new truck. Curious if the front of your bed hit the back of the cab. Hard to see it in pictures and sometimes body shops miss it.

Sorry you had to go through this but glad no one was hurt. I just went through the same thing; got rear ended by a drunk driver and my 17 was totaled.

I see that you're in Allentown, so it's awesome to see that PA is friendly to diminished value claims. I'm definitely going to take it to small claims as the last resort. Luckily I visited PA alone without my wife and kids and the impact could have been worse if she didn't stop sooner or if I was driving my wife's crossover.

The leg that was holding the brakes did feel a minor ache, but it went away the next day. That's great advice, I didn't think of tracking my time dealing with this issue. Will definitely log all that down!

I believe if she was driving a small sedan, it would have literally just went under my truck instead of ramming into my tailgate and hitch. Main reason why we always road trip in the Tundra because it's much safer being in a larger vehicle.

I think it depends on the used car market and I think it's finally coming down from last year's peak.

My hitch definitely took 90% of the damage. I was trying to search through the forum and it seems like the 2nd gen prone to suspension damage when rear ended. I'm not sure if that's true for the 3rd gen

I actually didn't pay attention to that. I was going to go to the local toyota dealership and do a side-by-side comparison of my truck and a new one on the lot.

I got off lucky, sorry for your truck and I hope everyone is fine. Defensive driving only works at avoiding frontal and side collision. Can't really avoid getting rear ended, but it does help having a large bed as a buffer between the passenger and a 3000-5000lbs vehicle.

My guess is that the front end of vehicles is considered the "crumple zone", so would expect the front end to get crunched more than the rear end. Especially the rear end of a pickup truck, where it's designed to carry the payload. But none the less, this is super bummer and the Tundra did pretty well.

Dodged a few myself on the interstate in spots with stop and go traffic. Watching the rear-view mirror and being in an outside lane has allowed me to get out of the way of some jackasses paying more attention to their phone then the road. I totally agree that being rear ended can be avoidable, but there are times where there's nothing you can do.

2 weeks after install this happened. girl ran into the back of me…. I think she was distracted. A few scuffs on the powder coating. Had I not replaced the bumper the rear end would have been munched.

I’m in PA. I was rear ended last year and went through a DV claim. I should have lawyered up right from the start. I have no patience and the other insurance company dragged it out and made it as difficult a process as they possibly could have.

Their “data” only showed the diminished value loss of around $1800 (total horseshit). Then they pulled an offer out of their ass at $3000. I did as much research as possible myself and established my truck was worth $6000-7000 less post accident. (Mine had rear frame damage, extensive bed damage, and repair bill was over $24k). They reluctantly ended up averaging out our dollar amounts and cutting me a check for $4600. I took it as I just wanted to be done and move on.

Just my opinion but I would not replace the bumper with aftermarket. The fact you got rear ended by a GMC going full speed and do not have injuries speaks to the engineering Toyota puts into their vehicles. The bumper did its job and absorbed the energy. Replace that with a steel bumper bolted to the frame and, well, that energy is now going into your frame and/or your occupants. Textbook case of how well the factory bumper works if you ask me.
