For sure, depending who else gets there for the worms, I have a idea/l spot for it.
Last year we did some sketchy shit with the ford friends, and ended up with all our fingers, and just had to park somewhere else.

Are there enough people around that I can leave our tent at camp when we hit the trails? Theft an issue? It would be nice if we didn't have to put our tent out repeatedly.

    Leave it!
Lots of people at camp during the day, and don’t take kindly to strangers…..
there was this one lady……… that came in hot to our friends with a camper and a ford(ford friends, are looking at buying a Toyota) and tried to scare them off, it was great! She’s awesome and we chilled, but yes, your stuff should be safe!

Secure for sure. We’d leave in the morning and don’t come back until it’s dark.

Is using the truck for a tent an option? Bench seat for the win.and what do you do with coolers and stuff on trails? And would bringing some tools be a good idea? I'm tellin ya, I'm seriously under prepared for this. I don't mind grabbing myself a sleeping back and sleeping in the truck, but the rest is new territory for me.

Again, whatever you feel comfortable with, sleep in the cab, sleep in the bed, sleep on a tree. No judgment.
Tools wouldn’t be a bad idea for your long journey just in case.
It’s AZ so I can get warm during the day, we leave our food coola at camp and then take a small pack-pack cooler while we’re out on the trails. Ice is 10 mins away.

no one will judge you for sleeping in the cab, some even prefer it……..@cruzer…… and park a certain way for blood flow at night

you're not alone bud. I sleep in my camper usually but since i shattered the rear glass last trip, I slept in the drivers seat. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I’ve definitely gotten no sleep in a hammock while camping because I was scared and skunk(real skunks) smell was everywhere, i reclined my seat and actually slept wayyyyy better than in the hammock.

Make a go-bag of tools. Think simple, bring Mamba, a socket set, a crescent wrench, etc.
Bring straps for your cargo. You can leave some stuff at camp and stuff you think you'll need on trail, strap it in tight. It will be shaken and stirred. Bring a can of gas maybe. Do you have any recovery points on your truck? If not, I'd buy some front shackles. Since you don't have a hitch, the rear recovery point will likely be your axle.

I slept in my truck the first 3 or so times I camped while off roading.

It’s also a big community, if you don’t have it, your neighbor probably does, people help work on other people truck, people bring parts from Phoenix to help a guy out with his AC(@KevinK), so don’t feel to distant or intimidated about the experience, it WILL BE an awesome time for everyone that makes it. Showing up is 90%

Yes you can sleep in your truck. But if you're tall, that may suck. But if you're ok with it, do it. What you save not buying a tent, you can spend on toasty bedding. That said, I recall you've received offers of loaned equipment. You're coming a long way; if you can accept generosity of others, we can help you be comfortable. It's several days and no showers on site. The more you can do to be comfortable, the more enjoyable your experience will be.

As for tools, don't buy anything you don't already have, because so many others will be around, someone will have what you need. And you've already got to toss some cash to make the trip happen. Like, don't bring a heavy floor jack. But if I were headed cross-country, I'd probably get AAA roadside. My thoughts.
