I guess I was wrong. My GMRS is a Radiodity. I never been able to figure it out. Maybe I'll just buy a Baofeng and be done with it

Depends. Maybe not in the kitchen sink, but the laundry room or utility sink is perfectly acceptable.

Oh no, it was the kitchen sink. My roommate was in the shower and the bathroom door was locked. I was drunk lol.
If we weren't in an apartment, I'd have just gone outside

How strict are the campground boundries? Like if i wanted to setup in the dark and quiet, but mosey my way into camp, is there a boundry? I dont need polo keeping me up when its bedtime, and i'd like to be able to piss on bushes.

It’s all National Forest in the surrounding area - you’re free to roam and setup where’d you like with the exception of normal regulations pertaining to camping near watering holes - T2S has a special permit for us to be where we’re at.

That's the setup I have for my handheld. It's a good one.
No car charger, but between the 2 batteries you'll be fine for a long while.

pasture implies lifestock. We camping with cows or goats? What about somewhere off a wide spot on a trail. I might be 1/2" low because bushings and have lady tires, but i shouldnt have too much trouble out in the wilderness, eh? Texas is different, even the parks are owned, ya know.

You can do as you like. Know though, Schnebly road is a graded dirt road with major "babies heads" rocks along long stretches of it between the T2S camp location and the bottom of the hill nearest Sedona. People do camp along this road, but I would not. While most vehicles have to crawl in places to avoid being damaged, I've seen long travel trucks blow through at 60+mph at night. I'd hate to have my camp equipment, truck, dog, or me sustain lethal injury because a rock the size of a babies head gets launched by the tires of a passing truck.

YMMV. It'd be waaay easier to scout a good spot in daylight than at night. Even though it'd suck for you and camp neighbors if you come in hot in the middle of the night, if you're not blasting music, driving like an idiot, or letting your dog bark and pee on other campers' stuff, I'd recommend you come on into camp if you arrive after dark. You could hit us up with your eta and basic set-up area requirements and we can try to "reserve" a spot so you're not doing an Austin Powers imitation trying to find a spot in the middle of the night.

That's just my ¢.02 based on past years' experience. Vehicles do come and go at all hours. If you're not an asshole, it shouldn't cause problems.

I cannot take credit. This is an actual term I've heard off-roading with multiple groups. To clarify, it's usually referring to rocks that size that are embedded in the trail. Whereas, on SH, they're loose and abundant. And potentially lethal.

I remember, the first time I heard a warning on the radio about "babies' heads" on the trail, I thought, 'what?!', but then I caught up and understood, 'ohhhh...'.

So how does all the camping work? Do the gens kinda segregate themselves? Is there like a main hangout area? Is it crowded and scary for introverts? Do yall have any pics of the campsite with everyone there?

Groups tend to form of people that already know each other, such as people that have met in real life; followed by people that have bonded on the forum-- often big overlap there. I've attended, I think, three times (could be 4, but I think one of those wasn't really a T2S event) and, each time camped near some go-fast later gen friends in "Vegas in the woods". It's easy to set up a ways away from a group, but an easy (and cold) walk from that group's camp fire. Not everyone can hang all night and keep up with the professional partiers, so it's nice to be able to sneak off to sleep.

I last attended in October, 2021, and since then, have spent a lot more in-person time with 1st gen guys, and now that I'm not chasing mods and how-to threads, most of my on-line interactions nowadays are in the 1st gen sub-forum. So I've developed good friendships and hope to spend some time by campfires in both areas. I know where @des2mtn camps, in the "may or may not party" area nearer the end closer to the registration booth, and I could see that turning into the 1st gen section this year. You'll for sure be welcomed by us 1st gen homies that pushed you to join us,
and are thrilled you'll make the trip to hang with us!

As for introverts, we've got more than a few-- you just don't know it because online interactions suggest otherwise. I won't label anyone here, but know that if you like to hang out, watch, and listen in until you get the lay of the land, there'll be others doing the same-- and some others wild, extroverted, and totally unapologetic to entertain the rest.

The camp clusters tend to bunch together, but you can easily walk, drive, or ride between these clusters. Visit others' camps, put faces to names, meet people in person you feel like you know online. Plus stare at trucks, crawl underneath to look at trucks, talk about trucks. And what not.

Also we are kinda in a valley/basin……. Area at camp, so the highlighted areas are backed up to decent sized hills/mountains. But everyone camps wherever, some like tree cover, some like being in the open for their solar charged gizmos. There is plenty of room or hiding room for any introvert that happens to come, I’d say 87% are introverts, so you might be camped right next to a few!

People are surprised to find out I’m an introvert but when they find out I don’t drink anymore, it all makes sense.
