Hey there! I've been considering purchasing an SR as it more than meets the needs that I have for my next truck. My only remaining sticking point is the lack of a power driver seat.

Does anyone have any experience adding an aftermarket power seat? Whether that be an OEM seat purchased or salvaged, or an aftermarket option? Considered things like aftermarket amp power steps can be added to these trucks, I have to believe the power seat could be wired in as well. I routinely drive 2.5 hours one way with the family pulling the boat, so having some adjustability to my seat is vital to long distance comfort.

    Thanks for your knowledge!

I have the SR and love it. The only thing I wonder about is if I need the grille shutters , tow haul and rear locker since those are not on the SR. I have the 7/4 pin connector and hitch but no tow haul which sounds like from my research is nice to have for engine braking and to prevent the transmission from going into overdrive. The grille shutters are suppose to help with fuel economy so not sure why Toyota didn’t add them to the SR. Maybe the SR doesn’t need it. Oh and the seat doesn’t adjust up or down and I am short so adjustable seat height would be nice.

How tall are you? Do you struggle to see over the hood?

TBH, you have been one of the main driving forces leading me to the SR. I've been on the fence about it since fall 2021, but after I spoke with Sweers & found out that there is no mechanical dif between the SR & upper trims on the powertrain, just a detune, I feel like the SR is the way to go. Then I've been seeing all you've posted & I realize going to a higher trim is a want, not a need. Though the CM w 6.5' bed is very intriguing.

I haven't driven one yet. I need to wait to this summer, paying down Stu loans first & I know myself. Once I drive it, it'll be coming home. Lol

How tall are you, Euro? Any issues seeing over the hood?

^^I have an SR and I believe you’re headed in the right direction. I just swapped wheels, shocks, and installed a chrome exhaust tip and it looks like a completely different trim.

No issues other than a slight drivers window wind noise, however it’s quieter than any other car I’ve driven.

How tall are you? Any issues for you, or someone else that's driving, with seeing over the hood? I am not worried about myself being able to see, but am worried about my 5'4" wife.

Why doesn’t the SR have active grille shutters?

    Active grille shutters-
the primary function of the active grille shutters is to reduce the aerodynamic drag of the car, there are some secondary benefits like improving the warm up time of engine and also retaining engine heat when parked.

The active grille shutters are deleted on the SR.

My bad... Grill shutters are there, just not as noticeable with the Plat grill...

Nice seats - do you know what they are or where one could get them?
I agree with all your findings but still purchased a sr5 cuz of the 32 gallon tank and bsm, I could not see the 6-15k+ premium charge for the other trims since the base trim already gets the 2.5 tss system.

Normally one would be stuck buying higher lvl trims for the safety features, at least yota did it correct this time around

And this is why I went with the platinum with memory recall.

If you can add them in, go for it and good luck!

Does anyone know why the grille shutters are deleted on SR? Does Toyota believe SR doesn’t deserve improved aerodynamics and fuel economy ?

The SR actually has better EPA MPG rating that the upper trims. How those actually translate to real life though, I am unsure. Fuelly does not differentiate between the detuned gas and standard gas engines. Fuelly has the gas 2022+ Tundra at 16.7 combined MPG, but there are also only 15 registered gas trucks, so it's an incredibly small sample size

It would be easier to add power seats without the memory function. That's how they are configured in the SR5 trim which is what I have. I did look into adding the memory function to mine but that gets very complicated. Looks like there is a position ECU that mounts under the seat, then the switch pod in the door. And it looks like you may need harness extensions to connect it all up and then enabling and programming. But just doing plain power seats should be more easily doable, IMO. Go to the parts breakdown for SR5 with power seats and try to figure out what you need. Might just be the seat itself and a power connection.

If adding the power driver seat is possible, then the SR is a no brainer for me

Same here. About the ONLY thing it doesn't have that I'd want (from what I am aware) is heated seats, and I can totally add those post-purchase.

Agreed, although someone will make it work. And yeah....that just might be a deal-killer. I mean, if it goet 23-24MPG, that's one thing, but it won't, at least not around here. LOL

And what do you mean it gets colder here?! It's a toasty 29 today. :D

I'm barely 5'9 and my expectation is that I won't have any issues seeing over the hood. Anyone 5'9 or shorter than can share their experience without power seats on the 3rd Tundra? I thought about going to a dealer and lowering the seats (on a powered seat Tundra) the lowest they will go to see if that would give me a better as to what I am in for. The only Tundras in stock at dealers near me are higher end models with power seats.

Looks like worst case, I could get something like these:

    Anyone have experience with these?

even with power seats, the way the hood is sloped, you really cant tell where the bumper and edges of the front are compared to my 2018.

from the drivers seat of our platinum the circles in yellow is pretty much the extent of what i can see. since the hood slopes downward from those points, you really cant see much or determine where the corners or front stop. luckily the front view pops up in the center 12in console when slowing down below 10-15mph with guides of the edges of the front bumper/corners.

and dont get me started on the valleys on both sides of the hood. such a pita when you get snow and trying to remove it. at least the 2018 platinum had a flat hood to the edge drop off and made removing snow easier.

    I would respond, but given I don't own a 3rd Gen, I'd be told

    - you don't own one so you don't know what you're talking about
    - you're just butthurt you can't afford one.

    ;)

maybe after a while i can get a sense of where the corners are but then again i dont drive it daily, the wife does. time will tell say after 6-9 or 12 months of decent driving behind the wheel.

Grille shutters. SR is the only trim without them. Apparently the grille shutters help with aerodynamics and fuel economy.
