Maybe it’s cuz i grew up in an era where being called a “poser” was a legit insult………But this is perfection and I kinda wanna copy it.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery. In all honesty, I think everyone copies little bits and pieces from others and makes them their own.

You can do it. If someone left a roadmap for you to follow and you can make it happen, knock yourself out. The guy whose truck that is might be a bit irritated if you show up somewhere he'll be, but we'll know you ripped it off, so that guy can rest easy.

I tagged the people I was copying in my build thread and link one of them a few times because he already had all the steps and info to the mod I was referencing.

Most folks here get it and are happy to have a 'fan'. Just don't try and pretend you did it on your own. I definitely have some long message history with folks as I got more info about their mods so I could do it myself.

Enjoy your truck and have fun with the journey

Sometime I see a nice BMW (insert car), then get closer and it says Hyundai (insert car).

Years ago for a while all trucks wanted and started to look like Dodge Ram. I think Ford was first to copy the front look. lol. But it's hard to copy Tundra's 5.7L v8. I wanted a Tundra engine in something else because Tundra looked chubby back then ... Then Toyota made it look cooler and unchubby or a boxy look (like Ford) so I bought one. :D

It’s not wrong at all. Build it how you like, otherwise what are we all doing here. Chances are, you’ll end up with your own tweaks here and there as you start your modding.

I was copying @TRDFerguson build mod-by-mod for a while there. :duel: Then my brain went haywire and started to do my own thing.

Good thing about copying a truck and having a build thread to coincide is that someone else someone else can work on your truck for you if needed :boink:

I don't see a problem with it. It is nowhere near as grave an offense as people posting pics of their truck in someone else's build thread. :pccoffee:

I don't see any issue with taking inspiration from or straight up copying someone else's build. At the end of the day, the chances are you'll never have your truck side-by-side with theirs anyways.

However, this truck looks more-or-less like a pro that had a C4 bumper/ditch lights/aftermarket wheels installed. Even if you did copy it, it's a pretty 'generic/classic' Tundra look imo

Not at all. One of the first things I did on this site was bookmark @xtyfighterx build page because that was exactly the look I wanted (I still have it bookmarked actually). I varied it a bit but mine came out pretty damned similar. Hopefully he’s okay with it.

Now, copying someone’s look, then mimicking their username on other social media like another member on this forum did? That’s jackassery.

Nothing wrong with taking ideas from someone else’s build. It should be received as a compliment. After all, our trucks are all the same at core.. everything else is lip stick haha

Freud would probably say something about someone who sees something and says 'i want what that guy has'. But the guy who sees what he wants and asks 'what should have been done different?' Is more of a nietzsche question.

We are all starting with a great platform. The trims that Toyota offers us are mostly transformable to any level (An SR5 can be made to appear like a Pro with relative ease). Only the real nerds will know every little subtle detail that makes it a purebred or not. When copying another build I think there's a baseline of mods that all fall into the "modded truck" category before the unique mods make more individual and original distinctions.
I looked at all sorts of builds before beginning mine and made notes of the "had to do" list and the "absolutely F@cking not" list. But all along I always knew I wanted something unique to me. I never wanted what someone else already has... It's like being the last one to go at the bachelor party, I just wouldn't even bother going in, not my style. Same with my truck, the baseline mods are standard, and then one-off stuff begins. These distinguishing mods are what makes it unique to me and ultimately the most important to me. If someone copies that part of my build, I don't care because I know it was my own idea first or just original to my own ideas. I guess copying is just fine for those who don't need to have unique and original builds. There's always someone that does it bigger, better, faster the next year anyway. But what we do to our trucks ultimately is what we want to do, so if you want to copy and you love what you have when you're done, Go for it. If you're like me, and you know who you are, then something else defines you and your truck, and that's the only difference. Otherwise we cannot be faulted by copying because we're all Tundra brothers and sisters!
