......to my wife. I spent the better part of a year getting my 2nd gen just the way I wanted it. Upgrades and better options etc. So when my life needs changed and I needed a heavy duty truck for towing, I just couldn't part with my Tundra. Every time I considered it, I'd get a feeling of grief. So last week my wife asked if I'd sell her my Tundra. Only condition is that I get first option to buy back and I get to maintain it. She only drives maybe 1500 miles a year anyway. So, problem solved. We sold her Subaru and she bought my beloved truck.

You actually sold it to her? She actually paid you for it? I’m curious how other households work.

    You and me both.

EDIT: That doesn't look nearly as good written down as spoken. And now I'm wondering if that's a term used on this side of the Pond...

This thread is deserving of a hijack, sorry OP. It's got me thinking, what is acceptable to you to sell/buy from family and friends?

Motors are a no go, mostly because everyone I know drives the kind of shit that comes back to bite you in the ass. I have sold used tools (but not junk) to friends, my brothers have benefited from my cast off tools when I've renewed or upgraded but I've never sold to them, nor have we charged each other for labor performed on each others homes.
I did pay my Hatton Garden jeweller brother for my current wife's engagement ring, but it was only for the cost of the materials, nothing for his or his wife's time (she sourced the diamond, handy having a DeBeers valuation person in the family :D ).

    BTW, nice truck OP.

Yeah, she paid me for it because she likes to have total ownership. It's a trait that comes from her childhood being one of 12 kids and having to compete for everything, owning nothing and controlling little. I'm good with it. It's her way.

Understandable, I have far less involvement with some of our household expenses that I have had in the past because my wife's ex controlled their finances entirely and it wasn't until she had to do everything on her own that she realised how much he'd screwed her over on them.

Family and friends is a no go for this guy. Whether something goes wrong in the first month or two years down the road...just creates some bad feelings at times.

So what is the next truck then @azimuth?

Funny, we (wife and I) have the same accounts, her name is on the Subaru and co-owner of the rock crawler, and my name is on the GMC and Lexus. These are all paid for and Colorado is a shared state....so no matter what we are 50% owners anyway.

Interesting. My wife and I share the same checking account. Everything is in one big pool. She’d be buying “my” truck from me with my or “our” money. We’ve got friends who both have their own business and they keep their finances separate from each others for business purposes. At least she bought a good one and you know it went to a good home.

We keep our finances separate because I run a business and I want to insulate her from it

for 30+ years - she has her own checking account, I have mine and we have an "ours". Highlander is in her name, Tacoma in mine, the Tundra is "ours", as is our RV and house title etc etc. At the end of the day, we "both" own it all. For 30 years....Happy wife = happy life
