Got close to 100 miles on my REM revolution 5.29s. I have the slight turbo noise when coasting, but I actually think it sounds pretty cool, kinda like my ole 7.3 when idling, I'm confident everything is gonna be just fine. Once break in is done I'm gonna throw in some 75w140 and hit the trails

Does anybody have an audio file on how loud the coasting whine is? I have a new truck and don't want the 5.29s to ruin it. Do 4.88s whine or is it exclusive ot the 5.29s?

I think it's limited to mainly Nitro gears but I do wanna say I recall a couple guys mentioning Revolution gears also doing it.

My revolutions have a very mild whistle on decel, but at around 60-68mph with either acceleration or deceleration it's got a very loud (to me) howl/whine. But it's silent at all other speeds. Not sure what going on. Might pull the third member soon and check it out.

Did some 5.29 nitro in the old man’s. Slight noise but then switch to amsoil diff fluid and no more noise

IMHO…Sounds like everything would be considered healthy and what you’re hearing is a resonance cause by the meshing of the ring and pinion gear faces on the coast side. What is tough to say is the ring gear resonating and transferring to the axle housing and the axle housing is making the noise? Or is it the ring gear/carrier assembly itself?

I had some 5.29 Sierra gears installed front and rear with a Power Trax Grip Pro limited slip in the rear. I’m going to be performing a drain and fill on the rear diff soon and was curious which gear oil to use. The Power Trax website states…

“Always use an 80W-90 mineral/petroleum based gear oil with at least a GL-5 rating. Synthetic oil and oils that contain friction modifiers are NOT recommended”

I wanted to try Amsoil, but I’m having trouble finding anything that isn’t synthetic.

I called the shop who installed my gears and they recommended Schaeffer’s 140W single weight gear oil. I bought four quarts for around $75.
