Hi all. I have the dreaded timing chain rattle in my 13 Tundra which is just about to hit the 250k mark.
My question is, has anyone done the timing chain job on a higher mileage 5.7?
Trying to decide on wether to throw the money on that, or just do a reman swap.
    Thoughts? Experience?
Thanks in advance for any guidance

Are you talking about a faulty tensioner? Symptoms include: Noise mostly from upper right side of engine at idle. Running up the engine makes the sound go away (increased oil pressure forces out tensioner).

I have this same issue and have been driving with it since I've bought the vehicle (15 months, ~40,000 miles). I have every reason to believe it was an issue before I bought it as well. I've read about people leaving this for longer without issue.

From my research, it looks like the fix is just about the same as replacing the timing chain, as far as labor goes, about 13 hours. Est. cost was $1500 from my mechanic.

This video shows the issue with the timing chain cover off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlezTAbtjoY

I am in the same boat as you, with 210,000 miles I am unsure if I want to drop $1500-$2000 into getting this fixed.

If the engine is fine, just swap the tensioner. I get it - it's the labor that's crushing. Now that being said, the serpentine tensioner and idler bearing (or any other bearing on the serpentine circuit) can make a racket that'll make you think it's the timing chain, so check those first.
