I have 23' TRD PRO and was wondering if anyone has any info on how to keep the vehicle running while locked? Or heard if Toyota is working on addressing the "safety" feature that shuts the vehicle off when you open the door? On my other vehicle, it was easy because I could leave one key in the ignition, and then lock the vehicle with the other key fob. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I managed to do it, although more annoying than my ford with the key pad. I leave the truck running with the key fob inside, and I remove the manual key from the fob and lock and unlock the truck manually. It was the only way I found to leave the truck running with AC on for my dog.58B707D8-BA07-455C-9BD6-B3B1029B020A.jpg

There should be a way to wire in an "override" button somewhere to allow you to do what you want, after pressing the button. It would reset after you cycle the ignition. Police cars often have this button somewhere, which allows the driver to exit the car and leave it running--but locked. I know a mechanic who should have insight into this, I'll check to see if he knows how it's wired in...

Thanks for the info. I’ve been trying to figure it out for the same reason as you.

the emergency key is not made for constant use. eventually it will snap, just a heads up if you use it alot for this purpose.

Thanks! Keep “us” posted! I’d like to think I’m not the only one wondering possible solutions to this issue.

Worst part that I found out, you can’t leave the truck running and lock it with the key fob.

The fob will not allow you to lock the truck with it running and the fob out of the truck.

I get it, security but at tue cost of convenience…

I tried what @Troyboy84 said above, and it worked for me. Did you try that?

Yes I’m aware of that. Thank you sir. But I’d like to keep my truck running without doing that, I’d like to keep the fob in my pocket and lock the truck.

I completely agree. It would be nice if Toyota addresses the issue, but somehow I don't see them doing it for the sake of "safety". Only time will tell.
