I've personally almost bought some to Crack my windows while waiting on kids to get out of practice. The tint blocks the sun, but I can still get a breeze. My vehicle shuts off after an hour automatically

I have the AVS ventshades. My truck spends a good amount of time outside at the boat ramp in the summer and I like to crack my windows just slightly without anybody being able to see it. Also, it is nice to crack them open and not worry about a stray rain shower. I never had them until I bought a tacoma used that did and I learned quickly that I liked them a lot.

Crack the windows open for some fresh air when parked or driving. Convenient if it’s parked and a chance of rain but you want to leave the windows cracked some. Plus, you can’t quickly tell they’re cracked if you’re in a busy area. I don’t have them on my Tundra but I did on my Tacoma and loved them.

    edit: also not a smoker

I have them on my truck, came with them when I bought it in December. The wind noise is not great at highway speeds with the windows cracked. There are some times in the summer, when it is stuuuuupid humid out and raining, and I don’t want to turn on the AC, that you can avoid fogging up the interior with the windows cracked, no rain coming in the vehicle. I usually run windows down, sunroof open in my Lexus, and have cracked my windows to get rid of some fogging, but I don’t have them on that vehicle so the door sill gets wet haha As mentioned, you can leave your windows cracked and people won’t really know the windows are open.. probably the best reason to have them.

Coming from places that hit 120 in the summer, the interior of a vehicle with closed windows is ridiculous if you park it outside. It was just habit for me to crack the windows when getting out of the vehicle so it would be a little better the next time you get in. When I bought my Tundra, I didn't get the rain guards but kept cracking the windows. Texas weather changes fast and I had countless times where a storm blew in during the night or while I was at work and my vehicle was getting soaked. Picked up the rain guards and this is now not an issue at all.

SHOCKED that there are legitimate uses for these. I was going to say “it’s a sign that says I needed to add more crap to my truck!” but I won’t say that now.

I originally Installed them when I did smoke, but that was 13 years ago. Now my truck has them for hot days to vent the cab when parked!

I get it if you vape/smoke. Makes perfect sense. But do people feel ok leaving their windows cracked when parked?

I do in most cases, aside from home, my truck is parked at work which has fences and gate guards!

I wouldn't say very easy. It's definitely helped a few times when someone's locked keys in a vehicle but even then its taken a bit of work to get a door open.

I've been driving 15 years and never had an issue. Learned this habit from my parents and in both AZ and Texas I see plenty of vehicles that leave windows cracked and I personally have never heard of anyone having an issue.

Now folks that leave their doors unlocked? Yes, that is a big issue with folks having vehicles ran sacked from unlocked doors. Sadly its super common where I live. Yet I still leave windows cracked and never had a problem.

But do what you need for your environment.

A guy can wedge a block at the top of your door at the roof line and use a broken off antenna or other to open the door in less than a minute. Gaining entry doesn't work if the alarm sounds the horn when the door is opened. Point is, one can leave the window cracked or not, doesn't really matter. The alarm being set is what matters most since it will draw attention to the scene.

Yep. I obviously use my own best judgement on where I leave windows cracked at though. If it’s a sketchy area (a few Walmarts around) no I won’t. Mine/family/friends house or other random places, yes.

Why do you dislike them as a window tinter? Just bought my tundra and it came with them on, but getting front windows darker here next week. I’ll pull them off if they make tinting the windows more difficult for the installer to get it done right.

I can only assume because the in channel ones could rub the glass.

Yes but he mentioned the in channel ones separately as being worse than the regular ones, which he still hates. Wondering why the regular ones bother him

The ones that stick to the paint dont scratch the tint and glass as bad but the style that rest in the channel for the glass take up room and cause the glass to be pressed pretty tight in the gasket
As far as a installer …we remove glass on almost all Toyotas for tinting …those visors are often in the way of lifting the glass out

One advantage to the weathertech is they do come out easily by their design…so we remove them do the job them reassemble everything
Glass removal for tinting is not common practice …but you could say I’m a little OCD
    Hope this helps those asking

Yeah I’m glad to hear from your perspective. I’m not attached to mine and don’t live anywhere hot so don’t see the need for them.

AVS ones are very thin. With Weathertech guards, yes, I had troubles in other vehicle. Even more after converting door glasses to thicker, laminated ones.

Cool you swapped for laminated…we always like working on laminated glass
Usually has much better bevels and has many benefits over tempered

I have them. I like being able to crack my windows without anyone knowing as well. My truck sits in the full sun in the NC summers so they serve that purpose. Plus, I think they look cool.
