Did I screw up?

Hello I ordered the toytec boss kit with total chaos uca's rear shocks and extended shackles. I went to the shop and talked to them and they said the total chaos uca's were loud and not needed. They said I should have went with the SPC uca's instead. I drive across Texas quite often but also go off-road and drive in some serious deep sand. Did I screw up and order the wrong part for my needs? ☹️

 

Not sure how an UCA can be loud. Call ToyTec..now....still open1-303-255- 4959

 

Well I don't know from first hand knowledge, but I'd tell them they are full of crap. I'm sure those are awesome.

For the record, I'm looking at getting that Boss Kit and was told I didn't need to change my UCAs at all, but it would benefit.

Not at all. You bought a stronger UCA that requires slightly more maintenance.

 

They say you don't have to. But I didn't want any issues with alignment. But I'm weird like that lol

 

When I pull the trigger, I'm going to go without them for now. Then add them later when more funds are available. Ha. Awesome you could get it all now. Tell them to suck it up and get the job done. I'd be confident.

 

You chose wisely. Just because it may not be needed doesn't mean it's not recommended. By getting those UCAs, you'll be able to get more caster when it's aligned which will make it track better on the highway. Those UCAs are going to be my next purchase so my truck doesn't wander as much on the road.

 

Do any of the Toytec coilovers have more travel compared to the stock units? Maybe that is what they are getting at? I have heard some uniballs squeal with miles on them but I don't have any experience with TC. I'd like to know the answers to this myself

 

Uniballs that aren't taken care of squeal like a pig. They do have /some/ more noise over stock but nothing that you would really notice unless if you were listening for it.

Travel numbers, that's a fun one. Edit: I stand corrected. See post #19

 

I'd get the UCA's. I don't need them as far as travel goes, but i can't get my alignment just right. Getting some in a month or two.

May as well get some while you're at it.

You're fine with TC. The guys at that shop are full of crap. Just stay on top of maintenance and you'll be golden.

honestly you cant go wrong with any of them..
The UCA's that you have OP are and will work great for you need.
Are they louder? sure, uniballs, pop, and squeek...and make road noise just a bit more... are they stronger and better then a ball joint! def, esp if the ball joint breaks. Its really personal preference. Uniballs if you dont have the right tool are hard to replace... the Ball joints arent...
its really up to the EU...what they want...but you definitely didn't do anything wrong.

 

Ok. I just got off the phone about 45 min ago with toytec. I talked to a guy that owns a 4Runner with boss kit and TC uca's. He said basically what y'all are saying. Maintenance every oil change and I'll be ok. As far as lifetime of the ball joint, they say around 60,000 miles. I'm gonna install it and I'll post an in depth review so people in the future who are in my situation know. I really appreciate all yalls help. I honestly just want a comfy ride for my wife when we drive out to the hill country.

 

Also, little bonus to the uniball, they are a little easier to change than ball joints. And by a little I mean a lot.

 

Are there any benefits to going w something like camburg ball joint vs their uniball setup?

The radflo's has the same travel as the Boss too?

 

Thanks Sean. Shopping for my suspension and leaning towards radflos. Not sure which UCA tho. Planning on running 3" lift on them.

 

Yep, even with the little 2.5" lift on mine the alignment wasn't right. The truck drives way better now. Ucas complete the package. 2" is really the max lift without them if you want your truck to drive good and not eat tires. Total chaos are supposed to be awesome. Couple guys on here running them. I think it's @jberry that said you just rinse them off with water. Check for threads on proper uniball maintenance.

 

UCA's in ball joint spec are plenty enough, but uniball are optimal for those who need more caster adjustment and additional articulation.
