I inherited this 2008 Tundra from my Dad. It was only driven a few times a year which is why it has 2,445 miles on it. I am currently driving a 2003 Tacoma with 240K miles that I have had for 13 years. I am looking forward to more room and a V8. I have to repair two wires that go to the power steering sensor that were chewed by critters. OBDII shows everything else OK (including emissions readiness). That will get it ready to go through the smogging/registration process.
I have a long list of things I want to do. First up will be some attention to the paint (clay bar, compound, wax). I don't think it was ever waxed. Then replace the original tires (lots of sidewall cracks). New wheels at the same time.
Then Android head unit, sub and amplifiers, different grille, Bilstein 5100 up front to level.....

If it’s been sitting for awhile, before you do the other mods you need to change the oil, diffs, transfer case, transmission, coolant, check radiator hoses, check the belt- it may not be high enough mileage to change those fluids, but they only last X amount of years, and the rubber just breaks down with age (just like tires being dry rot)

Yes, oil for sure. It was last changed about 1000 miles ago, but that was in 2011 :) Will also do a drain and fill on the transmission fluid.... I do that every year on my Tacoma. Coolant looked good, but it wouldn't hurt to change it. I might change the spark plug wires and spark plugs too after I drive it a bit so I can see how the spark plugs look (healthy running engine or not). The belts look good too, but after I drive it for a few weeks I'll recheck and see if they are cracking. Thanks for the suggestions.

Keeping an eye on/ prioritizing belts makes sense, spark plugs though are probably the least likely thing to degrade without use. I might be inclined to pull them to make sure they haven't corroded into their ports and to make future removal easier but if they look good on the thread and the bits that are on the outside of the engine then they should be fine - otherwise they need plenty of heat to degrade which is the one thing they haven't been getting.
The usual consumable parts to replace will not apply to something that has had almost no use but is older. Sure, fluids out but it's anything rubber based that is going to play up, if it does. Belts and tires are reasonably easy to eyeball, seals and 'o' rings are the things that would concern me and some of them are a right beggar to get to.

Probably a good idea to do a brake fluid flush too. Hard to know if water has absorbed into the system since the brakes have been applied so few times, but it will avoid any worry about corrosion in the caliper cylinders. And congratulations on being the beneficiary of this gift - what a great deal.

Also, if this is one of the 'interference' engines, a timing belt replacement is probably due based on the original's age.

I think both the 4.6L and 5.7L 2nd gen both have chains and that looks to me like a 5.7L.

Good call on flushing the brake fluid. We are low humidity here, but it did sit outside. It has a 5.7L so no timing belt. Hooray!

He drove it more when it was new, but for the last 10 years he mostly used it to take some 100# propane tanks to get filled two or three times a year.

Thanks everyone for the input. I will be looking for leaks (valve covers and other places where gaskets or seals are). I don't mind putting some money into it. I will keep my Tacoma for a few months before I think about selling to make sure all goes well with the Tundra.

Beautiful truck, but this is one of many reasons I hate California. Here in Pennsylvania, driving less than 5,000 miles a year exempts you from emissions testing!

Very cool! Since mice have been eating on it, I would check out the fresh air intake for the HVAC system and make sure don't have any droppings in the system that could make you sick.

You're gonna have to polish (buff) that white paint to get any shine back. It is single stage white, a clay bar and wax is not gonna cut it. You gotta remove the oxidation. As you buff, you'll see white chalkiness paint transferring onto the polishing pad.

Edit...I re-read your post, you did mention compound. You got your work cut out for you. Congrats on the truck

You are also going to need new tires. Those current tires are now 15 years old and while they look new, they are a hazard.

    Congrats on the truck!

Sorry i saw that you mentioned tires already. When you do get tires, get some good ones!
