1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

We have a new build DQ in town with a drive thru & pull in spots.

 

Mine hasn’t changed since it was built in the 80s. Sorta like the Burger King that still has that 70s retro look but they had to cut a hole in the side window glass to make a drive though. Really weird if you see it.

 

Pantry. A cart style island with wheels may happen but there will also be a table behind the stools. And if we are using our crappy stools from San Diego, we only have 2. Counter is for weekday breakfasts mostly, we only have 2 monsters, the designer just drew 4 stools for a size guide I think. We also don’t have random cake in the corner

We have a rather large crawlspace. More like a walk space. So plumbing isn’t as hard as it would be for a slab where you’d come in from above on supply and have to trench for drain. If I push anything other than the washer dryer hookup right now I’m sure to get a negative response. The formal answer is no to any fourth bathroom plan.

we also could use some extra closet space and we have this strange wet bar in the center of the structure so lots more can be done to shuffle.

Honestly, the ideal setup for me would be a shop off the side (garage and kitchen share the wall where the gas range is) with a tiny half bath. Even if it were only one car wide, though 2 would be sick. I’m holding onto that as a dream for now.

 

Shouldn't be terribly hard to do a digital gauge. Just tee off of the factory sensor, hardest part would be figuring out what the factory thread is.

 

If that's true, it's not a fail for the kids, it's a fail for the adults who failed to teach them how to safely use the thing.

We have a big problem, in that the older generations don't want to own up to the fact they did a shit job of bringing up their kids, and are now suffering with the 'ineptitude wrinkle' they themselves helped create. Someone taught a generation they could get seriously hurt because they were never taught how to handle something.

Sadly, for some of that older generation, instead of owning up and trying to correct it, the typical go-to (it seems) is to be snarky about how the lame/weak/dumb/fragile younger generations are and collectively laugh ... as the failure sits square on their own shoulders, not the younger generations or their parents.

We can all do better. I started by teaching my kids to safely use knives and hatchets. If I hadn't, my father damn sure would've. It all starts somewhere, or we end up where we are today.

I mean, to be fair, it wasn't always this way. I've had 20 years to get it where it is today, you can see what the kitchen was and what it is now, and you save at least 25-50% doing the brunt of the work yourself. And it wasn't entirely my hands, Dad is always here to throw in an extra pair so I'm not going it alone.

It's always the same pattern though - We sock away money, then every couple years, we pull the trigger on something else, and it snowballs. Helps to have a partner that pulls in more money than I do. She makes the extra money, I have the extra skills. Oh, and her mom is an interior designer, which saves $$$ to get quality outcome.

Believe me, if I hadn't married who I did, which was totally "marrying up(ward)", I probably wouldn't still be in this house. Who the hell knows where I'd be.

 

So, shift cables in our trucks (or any Toyota with a column shifter) they’re important.. our parts truck at work did what mine did. Sitting in park, it popped into reverse. So, if your shifter feels weird… keep that in mind

 

I'm wondering if this is what happened to my truck too. I was parked on an obstacle to get the truck max flexed, and suddenly the truck rolled back down when my passenger got out. Parking prawl still works and everything, was very odd and hasn't happened since.

 

You need to get vanity tag "ROUGH" for the MR2. Then you've got Rough & Tumble.

After replacing my cable, I never noticed how fucked it really was lol, I’m going to buy a spare since I think I’ll have this truck for a LONG time

since your old and new memory sticks are a different speed the newer faster stuff would slow down to meet the old RAM. I don’t think any thing you have Installed would utilize more than 32GB but I may be wrong. You probably wouldn’t notice a difference if you threw the old stuff back in I bet. Also unless your MB is a quad-channel then it really won’t make a difference and possibly run slower.
I would just leave er be….throw it in a dumpster and get a Mac

Hmmn, but is it the same for all three cab styles, all 1st gen years….

 

Access and reg cab should be the same, but 05-06 likely are different. Double cabs? I don’t know

My generation & their kids are who i poke fun at. I was lucky to have older parents than most of my peers. You'd think I was raised in the 1930's.
but yeah, I had a buddies wife struggle with my spinning their kid around. You know when you hold the kids wrists & the kid holds your wrists & you spin around in circles & the kid ends up flying through the air? She was sure I was gonna break the kid. Never dropped him, never broke him, his wrists still work fine as an adult. Up to her his training wheels never would have come off. I tried where i could, but if you don't own them - only so much you can do.

I will say, with all the social media, I think there's something hugely different that we are just beginning to see the effects of. There seems to be a certain hopelessness of young adults, like they are being fed a tidal wave of success that they feel they have no possibility of measuring up to.
I have had a couple 20somethings report to me & for the most part feel they've moved on better equipped to be independent adults.
I don't know, no easy answers. I just remind myself "it takes a village" & try to do my part.

I’d really like to know more about how to diagnose this one as far as urgency goes. Mine feels fine but I’m nervous idling in park now and with how little I drive it, I need to give the engine time to turn over. Definitely not idling in the driveway anymore. I should get more wheel chocks.

 

If the column doesn’t make a positive click into park, reverse, neutral and drive, somethings up

 

The 01 part is backordered too. I wonder if backordered=discontinued.

 

The parking pawl engages notches on the tranny’s output shaft to hold the vehicle. If the vehicle is on an incline there can be considerable force on the pawl making it difficult to move out of park. I’ve not seen them fail unless severely abused. The pawl should be able to hold your truck on most any incline

 

My truck creeps back a bit after park w parking brake on. Maybe parking brake needs adjustment? My driveway is steep. Going to change up the parking blocks to wider ones for my big tires but for now I’m parking the AT on the flatter grass.
