Fox 2.5 res Suspension Options

    I am going to be purchasing Fox 2.5 res shocks in the near future for my 2017 Tundra, and would like to gain some insight based on which course of action I should take:

    Option A) Purchase Fox 2.5 shock with 0-2 in lift: I am looking at this option if I am planning to keep stock tire size. I wouldn’t have to get a UCA. I do like this option because I get to keep the stock rake.

    Option B) Purchase Fox shock with 2-3 in lift: I am looking at this option if I plan go up one tire size (275/70/18). This option would require a new UCA. Sure, this option leads to more fun from modification, but is more is more expensive. If selecting this option, I plan to get a AT tire that is not too aggressive.

    Questions:

    1)If I do choose option B, is there a way to keep the same rake after the front is lifted probably around 2”? If so, will reestablishing the stock rake impact the functionality of the front shocks?

    2)UCA- Will an aftermarket UCA be able to meet or surpass OEM functionality? Is there a need to adjust the LCA due to getting a new UCA?

    3)Tire size: Do the advantages going from 32” to a 33” out weight the loss of mpg, etc?

    Please feel free to add any additional info that may add to my decision making. I am trying to learn. Thank you very much!!

    Hello Mike I'll answer everything here as best I can, but please feel free to call me whenever here at Hotshot Offroad. Happy to help you talk through it 406-936-0206.

    1) If you wanted to maintain factory rake you have to bring the rear up the same amount as the front. So if you brought the front up 2", bring the rear up 2" by virtue of a block, lift shackle, etc if that is the stance you are shooting for. Reestablishing stock rake will not negatively impact the front shocks in any way.

    2) An aftermarket UCA is designed to allow for proper alignment after a lift, and really that's all you need to think of it as. They will do everything the OEM UCAs will do + some additional adjustability. When you take your truck in after the lift your alignment tech will likely make changes to both the UCA as well as the LCA to get things into spec.

    3) That's all personal preference. How it looks, how much of an MPG hit you're willing to accept, etc are all things that you'll have to determine on your own. That said, I personally think that at least a 33" for a good look on these trucks. None of us are expecting good mpg out of these trucks anyway so... For reference, I am getting about 13 mpg combined on 35s.
