Power steering flush. ATF

Manual says use atf. Went ahead and did it that way but after seeing Car Care Nut video he discouraged it because of possible issues with seals long term. Should I change it again to power steering fluid? Noticed when it’s very cold it feels different. Otherwise feels fine .

 

I have had good luck with Maxlife ATF for power steering. I don't see it causing issues.

 

I used exactly what my owners manual said, the color at least matched lol.

 

Which is why Maxlife ATF works great-it's Dex II, III and more, compatible.

 

I used STP Dex III.

 

Or just stick with the Toyota recommended fluid. P/N 00718-ATF00
This is the new bottle. The old bottle just says automatic transmission fluid. Both are same P/N.

 

I'm not that rich, lol. Especially Toyota tells you exactly what spec they use.

 

I use Amsoil signature series ATF. No matter how cold it is I've never heard a groan from any of my vehicles over many years. I vacuum out the reservoir at least every second oil change (simpler to do than the cabin air filter and cheap).

I'll have problems but power steering isn't going to be one.

 

It's not that expensive. Check different Toyota dealers across the country that have free shipping too.

If the color matched, then someone must have done it before you, the stuff that comes stock is clear and not red.

 

Nope bought the truck new. It was red when I checked every time I changed oil. I do my own maintenance and work. I have trust issues, lol. At the end of the day I used Dex III ( red color) like the owners manual says.

 

Wow, every other report I've seen from people here is that thier fluid was clear. Mine definitely was clear since new, which was why I went down a rabbit hole trying to figure out the correct fluid, ended up going with the Toyota Dex II+III fluid 00718-ATF00.

 

Mine was clear when I changed it. Owners manual calls for DexIII, red it is…

Just got finished with my first power steering flush. I used castrol synthetic multivehicle. Looked up the spec sheet and it complies with current Toyota standards. Used about 1.3 qts to flush.

A fluid evacuator hooked up to the return line made quick and clean work out of it.
