Okay so I recently picked up my first Tundra 2015 5.7l 4x4 my question is do you guys just drain the fluid and refill with new fluid or do I drop the pan drain, change filter, gasket, and refill or do transmission flush, filter, gasket and refill. Now I have always driven older used Chevy's drove for years and never touched the transmission not even check the dipstick and never had a problem BUT this truck was a big upgrade so

I do not flush but instead drain and refill with Toyota recommended ATF. Also be careful dropping the pan - the through bolts on the pan can snap off if not removed carefully. You can read more about both of these items on this forum.

I also do not drop the pan, but opt for a drain and refill every 30k. This exchanges about 4 quarts, which is about 1/3 of the total fluid capacity. There isn’t really a serviceable filter in the transmission like most domestics; it’s just a screen so whether or not it needs to be replaced is debatable.

Seeing as you just acquired the vehicle, I would recommend doing a drain and fill with every oil change for the next three oil changes. Or do it three times at 1000 mile intervals. There is a specific drain and fill procedure that is simply but must be strictly adhered to.

I’d also look at the differential and transfer case oil. They are easy to do.

    Too many, but not enough....
Drain and fill every 30 to 60k miles and you'll never have a problem.

If you do drain and fill regularly you should never need to drop the pan. The filter is more of a strainer and guys who have opened theirs after 200k miles say it looks brand new.
