Yup, folks around here tend to be very helpful. It's the same answers they've put in the other 100 threads about oil change intervals. The search function on this site is poor to put it nicely. Searching google with your question and add Tundras.com at the end will be much more effective at finding the existing threads. The most commonly asked questions (to which there are 100 threads already and stickies), are what size tires will fit, how much lift should I do, can my truck tow this Caterpillar D8 on a lowboy, and how often should I change my oil. Oh, and what is the "best" oil.

I find it to be pretty legit. I can restrict my search to titles only, or a certain forum only. If I’m trying to find a post that I think a particular member made, I can search one or a few people’s posts only. I can also search media only, profile posts only, display results as threads, etc.

In fact, I can combine search restrictions: titles only, in a particular forum (like my truck’s generation or general discussion), posted only by certain members, AND posted within the last X number of days or months. It’s really helpful to find topics as a whole or to find posts that you are sure you read recently and need to reference again. I can’t do this with Google.

And call me crazy, but once I find those results, I actually read them rather than being scared by the length of the threads I found. o_O:rofl:

Yep just used it yesterday looking for torque specs on the differential drain plugs. Took about 10 minutes. Found what I needed then got distracted and took more time reading a couple other threads.

Are some of y'all really this petty? "Scared by the length of the threads..."
Again, I do not know how to say this any other way: you can simply post "5K," or "10K," or something else....OR...just not say anything at all. It is so baffling that some of you find it necessary to say some of the things you do. It is not that hard to just not say anything, or simply answer the question. Of course I know I could just search it. Sure, let me go through 50 pages of differing answers from all months of the year, as opposed to getting rapid responses after a year of ownership...that makes sense.

An now this thread is pages long with differing answers.

May as post the same thing I did in all the other threads....
I follow the owners manual, specifically the special operating conditions part of the maintenance schedule. So I change the oil and filter every 5000 miles.

I see now. Rather than use the information existing, everyone should re-ask all of the questions for their convenience instead of having to do any of the research themselves. If this were an obscure problem, I could see that making sense. Seeing as how it's in the top 5 discussed topics on here, I think this information is already readily available and easily obtained without reading 50 pages of conversation. And if it takes 50 pages of conversation to answer in the other threads, what's to say there's an easy or consensus answer that you are going to magically uncover with your thread? And you really want people to just answer "5k or 10k"? Are you taking a poll and will go with whatever is answered more? Or are you interested in why they answered that way? That's why the threads go so many pages. Comes off a bit self-important to not feel like you should have to read through something, but to expect everyone to come in here and follow all of your instructions and give you immediate validation and feedback to satisfy your needs.

From what I know it's more of the oil filter that won't hold up not the oil.

I can respect that but for the love of Christ please tell me you're using Kirksoil "On The Dotted Line" series engine oil.

I use whatever is on sale. I’ll use Kirkland oil if I remember to buy some when I’m in town. No point in using “top tier” oil if I’m changing it every 3k. I have a Napa in town that sells a Napa brand full syn for $21 for 5 quarts and that’s what I usually buy.

I do not expect anyone to do anything...has nothing to do with validation....taking this a little too deep. Again...you choose whether or not to answer the simple question.

    100%.
    Ummm…
These are expectations we’re talking about.

All of the answers you didn’t like were pretty good natured. If you stick around, you’ll see that there is a great deal of ribbing and people giving each other a hard time. There is also some seriously quality satire. Most people here don’t take themselves too seriously. You’ll enjoy your time here more if you read more before posting questions and if you take the shenanigans in stride. ;)

I've always been told to ALWAYS change the filter when you change the oil.

    <shrug>

I stand by the "it's a $50,000 truck, why should I hesitate to put $100 of oil and a filter in it regularly??"

Totally understand what you are saying. I am not trying to take anything too seriously. Was honestly pointing out I felt others were taking it too seriously. I mean for real, just post an answer or don't lol...not sure why that has to be so complicated. If someone is upset about someone not desiring to go into other threads, then it costs $0 to keep that thought to yourself instead of what is happening here.

I think people jumping in and joking around on new threads is also the by-product of this forum being dedicated to trucks that historically have very few issues to figure out. It’s mostly people modding their trucks rather than being stumped on some issue they can’t quite fix. In my experience most other forums deal a lot more in problem solving.

Some of my favorite threads here deal with Tundra-adjacent topics: camping setups, hunting, fishing, meat smoking, bikes, ATVs, etc. It’s a pretty fantastic forum.

2020 doesn't have turbos. Leading cause of failure on turbos is oil contamination.

    I should know.

My dealer pre-emptively scheduled me for a Toyota care oil change and tire rotation change at 5k miles before I even picked up my plates. Hely little boy, the first one is free... Well, I guess the first several are free. Then they will try to get in your wallet.

You would think if they’re asking you to only change your oil every 10,000 miles they would at least use full synthetic LOL
