    Good afternoon all!

Well, I just signed my life (or part of it) away :spending:. Just purchased a 2023 SR5 DC 6.5' TRD OR MGM Tundra!

Now, I just have to get it. :eek2:

    It's about 1100 miles away.

So, my question to the rabble here - can anyone offer any advice or suggestions on reputable auto shippers?

In doing my research I am getting quotes ranging from $600 to $2500!?!?

Figured that maybe someone here might have some thoughts on the matter.

Thanks for any input in advance.

That’s what I did. 1100 miles is a long ways though. Hotel, plane ticket and gas will run $1000 or so. Letting someone else deflower your new truck during its break in period isn’t a great option. A shipper should be able to get it to you in the $800-1200 range.

Ahh - if only that I could. Unfortunately, at the moment, other priorities are taking up my time. Believe me, if I was able, that's just what I would do.

    Sure. However I would

    1) want the opportunity to go over it with a fine tooth comb before accepting it
    2) want the opportunity to break it in on a road trip like this

Absolutely. In a perfect world I would jump at the chance (even my better half would like me to do that) but, alas, unfortunately it is not to be in this instance.

It was a bit frustrating that I had to go so far out of the way to 1) find a dealer that would sell at MSRP (started this process with them back in Aug); everyone around the area here was marking up anywhere from $2500 to $10,000+ and 2) everyone I spoke with locally basically said that it would be impossible to get a DC w/6.5 bed. So it is what it is and I have to hope for the best.

I paid $1200 dollars to my old 7.3 f250 shipped to my new house around a month ago (I didn't have a way to get back to the truck to drive it up here) it was around around 675 miles. I used U Ship and picked my carrier after reading reviews and stuff. I had quotes from 900-1400.

Also, diesel is still very expensive, so shipping isn't as cheap as it used to be.

Maybe we can do a forum member relay. Whoever is closest drives the first leg then they hand it off to the next closest forum member. Then by the time the op gets it it will be on 37’s, SCS wheels, turbo charged and have new exhaust. Boom. Done.

I paid 1000.00 to have my Corvette shipped from Orlando, FL to Colorado Springs, CO (1830 miles) in 2013. These prices really are pretty good for almost 10 years later and the high cost of diesel.

If you’re going to use a shipper, Reliable isn’t.
I sold a car to a gentleman in Denver. Reliable picked it up here in Charleston and took the car to Miami, Fl. (further away). The car sat there for 2 weeks in one of their yards, supposedly waiting for a truck headed towards Colorado. If you consider where Miami is, every truck leaving there is headed towards Colorado. Anyway, the buyer ended up flying to Miami and driving the car back to Colorado. Reliable wouldn’t release the car until he paid for the trip from Charleston to Miami, which ultimately moved the car further away.

I used U Ship. Once you input all your info, what your wanting shipped and where, you'll get to choose from different quotes from different shippers, some are huge companies, some are just 1 guy with a truck and trailer. I got 1 guy with a truck and trailer, he has around 50 5 star reviews hauling vehicles. You don't gotta pay till it's delivered either.

Isn't U Ship the company that used to be on that show "Shipping Wars"?

We shipped my Wife's Jeep from a dealership in Tennessee to Arizona last November. Got on the Uship site and found a shipper. I believe it was a tad over $1500 and that included buying additional shipping insurance. Would absolutely do it again. Unfortunately, I can't remember what company we chose to do the actual shipping.
We still saved nearly $3k after shipping, buying from that dealership versus paying MSRP here locally.

Thank you all for the helpful comments. Appreciate it. Hoping to have something worked out in the next few days. (Daughter is more anxious for me to get the truck here than I am - only because once it’s here, she has full use of our 2012 Camry and no more riding the bus to school! :))

    It's finally home.

Ended up flying up and driving home a little more than a week ago - not thrilled with putting 1100 miles on the beast in less than 24 hours but it's finally here.

First photo is somewhere in VA with a bit of snow falling.

Drive was great and the truck rides much nicer than my father-in-law's old 72 Ford!

Even managed 19.8 mpg until I hit the hills in central/southern Virginia (as per the onboard computer).

Buddy in Michigan (who, unfortunately is a Jeep owner) is already lining up some trail rides to take it on when I visit in the spring.

Congratulations! I'm fully ready to do the same thing for my Tundra (DC 4x4) in March/April. Pay for one way plane ticket ~$400, the dealer will pick me up and take me to the lot. Then I'll drive it south for about ~1000 miles. Even with the flight, food, and gas, I'll still be saving over $2k compared to any other dealership I've been working with.

I looked at uship estimates, I would be losing that $2,000 savings if I had it shipped.

This. Plus (not sure where you are from), none of the dealers around here were getting any double cabs/6.5' bed trucks. And, in addition to marking everything up anywhere from $2500-$10,000, they kept trying to sell me trims that I had no interest in!

Seems to me the PERFECT way to break in your new truck properly and learn all about it.
