So the other day, I went to a battery store to get a new battery for my 2015 Tundra SR5. I was just going to buy one, replace it myself, and bring the core back at a later date. However when I got there, they said they could replace it for free and I would get the credit for the core right away. I agreed. Well, not only did they install the wrong battery, but they put it in BACKWARDS!!! Yup, main fuse blown. Had to get it towed to nearest dealership and I will be out of having a truck for 3-4 days. Manager of store very apologetic and is taking care of any bills that I will occur. Here is my question, what are the chances I am going to have an electrical problem in the future? I haven't talked to manager or techs yet about will this be covered if I have another problem in the future, but I will be having that discussion with them. I am debating of just keeping the truck and hoping I have no issues in the future or just trade it in or a newer one. I don't really want to trade it in, but having a newer Gen 2.5 (sorry, don't like the looks of the Gen 3's...lol) with less miles would definitely be nice and I could just run that for the next 10-15 years. However if you guys/gals think I will be totally fine with current truck, I will just keep it and keep running it. Up to this point, it has been a great truck. Any thoughts/suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully the fuse did its job when it blew and prevented further damage. I don’t think you’ll know if everything works until it’s fixed and you try other stuff out.

The fuses are there for a reason, it's unlikely they need to replace anything else, and if they do, once it's running again, I would sincerely doubt it's going to have future issues. It's not like the motor was run without oil and rebuilt - some simple plug and play pieces might need replacement, that's all. The longevity of a truck or it's value after such a simple thing really wouldn't concern me personally. I think you're okay to relax. Even better, they're letting a Toyota dealership fix it for you. Dealerships tend to stand behind their work, and do things the right way using genuine parts, you couldn't have it at a better shop for this. Get some rest, it'll be all good.

I accidentally did this to a Tacoma. I smoked the main fuse and a handful of others.

I replaced them all and haven't had a single issue since. Different truck, but these vehicles are pretty well protected.

I certainly wouldn't swap vehicles over it.

Highly unlikely, as others have stated the main fuse has a purpose and it was served in this case. The main protection of the electrical system.

These truck have a really good electrical system. The only concerns would have been melted/damaged wiring or damaged ECUs from improper powering. Neither of which I would be worried about. When the main fuse blew it essentially removed the connections from the battery.

I have had several ECUs from these trucks out and a part on the bench. One day playing with an extra instrument cluster I literally shorted the entire power circuit with my voltmeter. I thought for sure it was done for. Entire thing went dark, I saw a spark ect. Removed all powered, let it sit for a few hours and boom it came right back to life. I was really surprised.

I would almost be more worried about who the tech is at the dealership working on it.. o_O Luckily most of the Toyota guys are pretty good.

You have a much better chance of rodents destroying your electrical system (something we have seen many times on here) than this battery mishap.

Thank you everyone for your replies...they are greatly appreciated. One bad thing though, they towed it to the nearest dealership which was a FORD dealership!!! The main fuse is what blew and they are getting one from a Toyota dealership so that is the good part. Should I still be worried???

Meh, they're not really getting into the grit of your truck swapping fuses out. My local dealership was a Ford & Toyota dealership and only split a few years ago for larger inventory space, still owned by the same owners. My Tundra came from the "Ford" side with a "Ford Blue" warranty that it'd have seen the same techs from the Toyota dealership if it'd needed anything.
