I like Loveland. I used to go there a lot when I was younger. Good snow, so close, and so windy.

As Glade said, free is free.

Booked a Tahoe trip for mid March. Will be the first time on a lift in 4 years and first time back on skis in about 20. Although I love snowboarding, the falls are getting too rough and Im thinking switching back to dual planks might ease those a bit. At this point I’d say my knees are in better shape than my noggin. Wife asked why I can’t “just take it easy”?

Will report back after the trip with my scheduled knee surgery date

Gotta say these Burton Photon (wide) are super comfortable just walking around the house. And the lace system more evenly tightens from the top down than my previous pair

I’m going skiing for the first time next month. I took the family a couple of months ago, but could only watch as I was recovering from surgery. The family had an absolute blast - I was happy for them )but deep down jealous lol). I’m cleared to ski now, and excited to try it out. Any tips for a beginner?

Definitely take at least a half day lesson from the mountain! You'll enjoy the subsequent days so much more

First, I always tell new people/beginners to take a lesson or two first. Learning on your own or with friends/family can ruin the whole mountain experience for a foreseeable future.

Second, enjoy the mountain for what it is. Everyone had their first days on skis or a board, so don't get discouraged when you see others that may not be struggling. We're all here to have fun! :D

Third, learn to stop in case of emergency situations lol.

Absolutely take lessons. One good way to do it, though not the most cost effective, is to take half-day lessons in the mornings and practice what you learned in the afternoons. My first ski trip was for six ski days, so I had lessons the first three days and skied the last three days. Then every year after that, for about four years, I would take at least two days of lessons each year. Even skiing only one week of the year, I was skiing smooth blacks easily by my 5th year, and I started skiing when I was 42.

Same here. My GF then (now wife) would speak words of encouragement and leave me to figure it out. I couldn't stop and broke my right pinky pretty quickly at Loveland trying to get my hands down to slow down.

My pinky is now claw-like and better designed than a straight pinky.

I suggest a lesson. Learning by yourself sucks and having a friend or family member try and teach you also sucks.

M3 - when are the Step Ons going out? A Basin got four and Copper got six. We're going to Frisco on Friday.

For a lot of hype and cancelled school and court, this was a bust of a storm.

had a chance to try the new gear last week. The Photon boots are pretty amazing! Way more support, and warmth than my previous Burton Ruler boots.

Had a good day Tuesday. A little windy up top, but we managed to get in a 3.6 mile run at one point (Magic Mile to Govt Camp) - the Palmer was closed or that would have been a 4.5 mile run.

Ya, very happy. It does take some time getting use to stepping out. Basically pull the heel lever and lift up heel, then push forward and twist to release toes. Kinda feels more responsive than strap downs, but that could also be the new board. Same model I had before, Burton custom camber, but moved to a 150 from 148cm.

Edit: and oh does that new board carve! Granted my old board was in really bad shape, edge wise. delaminating in one spot and a huge bulge in another, all around the edges where it got whacked on trees/roots/rocks

Jealous of everyone and their pictures haha. I'm in south New Jersey and the closest mountains to me are have barely gotten any snow this year. All man made that turns to ice by early afternoon. I've gone up a few times after work to board until close (mountains close at 9 pm ) just to get a few runs in.

Hoping the month passes quickly, finally got a snowboarding trip to Big Sky, Montana this March. I cannot wait much longer lol

I’m waiting for our March trip as well! We’ll be in Tahoe the week of st Patrick’s.

If anyone is around, let’s go hit some turns. I’ll be riding solo most days.
