Brand new in box. Retails @ $100 from Best Buy (link). Highly rated SOHO unit. 19" rack-mountable for your media/telco/data closet.

$50 + $10 towards shipping, it's yours. If unsold by the 19th, I'll take any semi-reasonable offer someone throws at me.

I'm building out LV/network in a friend's house, he bought this before booking me for the work. We can't use it (it's non-PoE), and he can't return it (too late).

It's ideal for home network buildouts where you're not using PoE APs/cams/phones.

Why not use a power injector?

Guessing it's for cameras, so that'd be a ton of injectors.

I have been running TP Link DECO 60 Mesh devices in my 2800sq/ft house/7000sq/ft lot for over a year. I pay Cox for Gigabit and get north of 600 everywhere. TP Link is a quality company (for those that are unfamiliar with the brand)

I mean, @TRDFerguson offered one of the big reasons, but the bigger reason is, I'm not a hack. PoE adapters are something you use when there's absolutely no other option. Seriously, total last-resort option. Why put yourself in a position to need one 120v outlet and one cat6 run for each PoE device you need, when you could just buy a PoE switch and open yourself up to 16, 24, 32, or 48 functional PoE ports with a single cat6 run to each device?

You'd pay (at least) $20-30 per PoE injector, or pay an extra $100 for a switch that's PoE-capable to simplify install & wiring. I also don't know any quality PoE injectors that support port-tagging, so you're leaving yourself with no real way to segregate your CCTV network traffic away from your main network traffic, unless you've got a managed switch at the core of your network and the injector doesn't strip packets of tag data.

This guy will use roughly a dozen PoE devices and I always make headroom for expansion. He's running 3 APs, one per floor (~4.5k sq ft), plus hanging at least 8 PoE cams, and may add VOIP phones later. I had him pre-run the house with cat6, and he needed an NVR, so I had him get a Unifi UDM-SE, used it to light up the APs, then tossed a Unifi 24-port PoE switch to service wall ports and the CCTV cams. UDM has a built-in NVR that's pretty competent and secure/easy for remote access.

When I'm doing jobs, "functional, robust, stable, simple" is my aim. I want something the user can manage, something I'm not going to get support calls on every other month, and easy enough the customer can look at it and understand how it works. Adding PoE injectors means I need power drops everywhere. It adds clutter and extra wiring, it's also an extra moving part that can break later, and if I'm not around, I don't need a new tech spending 2hrs just trying to figure out cabling/config.

Don't get me wrong, this *is* a great quality switch for someone who needs to build a network out. Hell, you could resell it on eBay in a day and fetch at least $70-80, it's brand new in the box. My buddy just didn't know anything about what he needed to achieve his goals in a streamlined way. I get it, a lot of people don't understand this stuff, the pros and cons, and how to best spend your money to get the best bang vs. buck.

My bad bud lol I was thinkin it was goin in a smaller job. Most of these that I've seen in residential locations don't end up using but a fraction of the ports. They also don't need every port energized.

All good. Truth is, a 24-port switch would've covered all his drops, if there was no PoE requirement. But he didn't understand that.

    EDIT: Donated to charity.
