Skiing and Snowboarding

I snowboard. Been up 5 times so far this year. Have a mid-week pass to Arapaho Basin. Hit me up if anyone goes there

 

Jealous of all the pictures. Took next week off of work to try and get to the snow!

 

My youngest daughter and I on Sunday. 12” fell from Saturday night to Sunday night.
glad I’d purchased the directional/powder setup. What a day.

 

Big week coming at JH

 

We’ve had 4+ feet fall since Friday. White Christmas and everything. Tight trees = no crowds/Jerry’s/Bruce’s

 

ours turned to rain over the weekend...supposed to have turned back to snow today, but 40+ MPH winds.

Hoping to maybe get back up tomorrow night, and again on NYE

 

We’re expecting the opposite. Rains for NYE weekend. Enjoying the goods while we can. Hope y’all get some good riding conditions!

 

Rain in town but dumping on the hill. We always take Xmas to NYE off riding. 216” as of this morning. Big December

 

closest mountain to me got 1.5-2ft of snow throughout. Leaving at 4am tomorrow morning to get some freshy tracks

edit: i also picked up some new boots today. ThirtyTwo double boa. Coming from an oversized boot that were lace ups, these are so much more comfortable already walking around.

 

Got the same boots last season. Very happy with them

 

Epic day!! Easily 1.5+ feet of soft and fluffy snow on a bluebird day. Boots did fantastic too.

No selfies (besides my shadow and riding solo), had too much fun makin turns. Perfect day for more advanced riders as the deep stuff was hardly touched. People were scared to get stuck I guess.

Care flight called out to A Basin today. Not sure what happened

 

Yikes. That's no good. Snow at A Basin must have been nice. I saw Copper got 9 inches.

 

Ya it was a nice day. Lots of good snow in the trees!

 

Speed is your friend

 

If you come from the old Clickers (in our case, Switch step ins), the Burton Step Ons are money. I'm on season four with them. I tested them for two years before my wife switched (she was skeptical). We're mostly with skiers and she was done being the slow one off the lift.

It's a lot like Speedplay pedals, if you ride road bikes. Your foot knows where it's going, so you don't really have to look down to get in. And you're gone.

 

Dude I was just looking at them last night! I'm on year 7 of my Burton Custom Camber 148, board and Ruler wide boots. Time for new gear!

 

Taking this as a sign, pulled the trigger on the order this morning!

 

Nice! Congrats. Like pedals, the first season requires a little patience. I wanted to be able to step in on the go from the beginning, and it didn't work out that way. The first season I had to pay attention to where my foot was going, but then it became a learned movement.

Got up for the first time this season with my eldest. Late start for us. My dad passed after thanksgiving and I had Covid. I have some brand new nordica enforcer 100’s, but decided to pay tribute to the guy who taught me how to play in all forms of water, and use his old skis(nordica hellnbacks)…

if anyone here is from central NY or rode Toggenburg in the 90’s you might have known or been taught to snowboard by my dad (Fred Andrews)…

 

I just turned 40 a few months back. Not bending or sitting down to strap in every run is a.big selling point!

 

Also helps a ton on catwalks.

No love for Never Summer for your new board? Denver company and you have to be local to be at A Basin mid week.

 

I've just really really loved the ride of my board over the years and wanted to stick with them. Especially good in the trees and moguls with the tight turns. Plus last time i did the research they were basically the only board that could accommodate my short height plus big feet lol, so that my boots aren't hanging off the edges of the board too much. I'll do a demo day eventually and test some others

 

Going to be in Denver area for a couple of days at the end of February. Trying to decide if I am going to extend couple of days and get some slope time in...if even one day. Through my Powder Alliance pass, I could hit Loveland for "free" - is it any good?

 

My pic above from the chairlift is on ptarmigan on Loveland. Not a ton of expert terrain open yet, but Loveland is worth checking out for sure. Not telluride or aspen, but a lot of good variety of terrain.

 

Loveland is also gonna be the closest to Denver. A BASIN second. But if it's a windy day, Loveland can easily get to white out conditions. A BASIN is a lot smaller, but also more intermediate to advanced runs
