Ironman 4x4 Suspension

Not sure of the comparison between the Bilsteins but I put the regular foam cells on in September and I had zero bow in either of my coils.

 

Do you have pictures of your set up? How do you like it?

My impressions are that it is very close to a brand new TRD Off-road suspension (Bilstein 4600s?) since I can directly compare to my Dad's new 2021. It is almost identical at low speeds and then at higher speeds, it starts to soften up and it is much better at handling large bumps and potholes.

 

Damping curves of the FCs and FCPs are probably similar. I had the black shocks and noticed a huge increase in low-speed damping with the FCPs... most evident in sudden handling maneuvers. And ya, very controlled on large bumps. Still love them.

 

It looks great! I appreciate the feedback, it seems like a solid set up overall. I may make the purchase shortly after the holidays. Not sure if I want to wait an unknown amount of time for them to return their FCPs back to the market.

 

Got my foam cell pros in! Unfortunately I have encountered a new issue… the coils literally don’t fit on the strut, as in either the strut has an OD too large or the coil ID is too small….. awesome.

I just checked the website and I don't see the springs for the FCPs listed. Did you buy springs for the regular FCs? Ya, those won't fit.

 

why would they sell the struts if they didn’t have coils? I looked at the coils and there was no mention of them not fitting the FCP that I saw.

 

Never mind, I just saw that they only fit foam cel….smh….

 

Good question... maybe someone already has the springs or needs a replacement shock? But that's BS, really. The shock that those springs fit on should be in the friken title, not buried in little print on the item page. Sorry you had to go through this.

 

It is noted in bright red letters but with the cluster they seem to still be having with the FCP setup they should really be reviewing the orders for FCP struts all together making sure folks know what is going on and especially be reviewing them if they put springs in the order.

 

I hope Ironman isn't completely ignoring FCPs on the 2nd gen Tundras. Except for the spring clearance issues they have a great product (I certainly like mine!), and they took the time to make several informative install videos, and seemed to be on a roll. But it's been over 6 months right, and not a peep...?

 

Has anyone used Coachbuilder strut shims on each side for the purpose of reducing preload a little to soften the ride? If so, how much preload did you remove and did it make a difference to ride quality?

 

Should work and I think you'd lower the collar the same thickness as the shim. How much lift do you have?

With shims you definitely need these... actually even if you don't have shims. Get some 10x1.25x30mm bolts to install them.

I called them today, they have redesigned the coils and should be here soon, so for now I’m just staring at the rest of the lift dreaming on install day.

 

how do the regular foam cells ride?

 

Has anyone used the standard foam cell shocks?

I ended up returning everything and I’ll most likely go with Dobinsons, it was frustrating that no one could find out any information, I talked to both Ironman USA and Ironman aus, and no useful information came out of either.

 

The dobinson setup looks very tempting

 

If only they had 25% off sales every other month like IM...

Looks like they have the new Foam Cell Pro kits in stock. New springs are now black.

Except for being black the coils look identical to the old ones. I wonder what was changed...?

Maybe they switched the spring metal manufacture.

The black spring color is a huge plus for me. If it’s preset at 3.5in lift, would there be any downside of lowering it a bit? I want 2.5-2.75 in lift

 

Nope. In the pics it looks identical.

Mine is set to 2" and it works great.

Actually in the photos they have it set to low preload, nowhere near 3.5" lift. I think the 3.5" "standard" is a way to get you to buy the full kit with UCAs and rear springs. You'll get better overall performance with 2" front, and leave the rear at stock height.

 

They have an extra 5% off today only (happens in cart). Good price if you want the whole kit, but you are still SOL if you just want shocks.

Somebody in the market needs to call them and get the lowdown on exactly what was changed for the new coils, besides the color.
