What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I feel like with 4.56 and the suspension I could tow OK w a brake controller. Would like to try it out.

 

3.91 to 4.10 seems like a waste to me but I’m paying labor vs free so that’s one thing.

 

3.91 to 4.10 is a step up. Considering if I end up with 32” tires that’s pretty spot on for stock like driving. Just a little lower than ideal for 33s. But not ridiculously. Plus remember I have the 5 sped


Hmm actually interesting to think though, my 5th is .716. The a340 in the older trucks is .705

 

Yeah, 5 spd only helps you off the line. So better for towing heavy or wheeling. The 4spd actually has an overdrive which allows for more gear beef. It kind of makes sense.

I don’t regret 4.56 at all. I might have regretted 4.88 cause I like Toyota wheels so much.

 

.716 vs .705 isn’t really enough to matter though.

my mr2 is a .82 final… lol my new 5th gear set that’s coming next month is .651… now that’s a difference. (And will let me keep the shorter ratio 1-4 with an overly large step in OD for highway cruising

Oil change in the coolish weather today. Threw some temporary silicone at the seals of my rear brake light at cab, and window seals where meets gaskets from roof. Hit it with the blow dryer first to warm it up.
still to address exhaust leak near front, weeping power steering line and B0103 squib airbag

 

In my research on an R150F swap, the final drive is .82 on that as well. I'm already up there in RPMs for highway cruising, even with 33s Definitely making me second guess that idea. Although banging gears sounds so fun.

Another thing I'm considering is that I overextend my truck quite regularly, and the torque converter in an auto is a nice shock buffer. that goes away with a manual trans. Might start breaking stuff.

 

I’m not sure there is a car I would like less than an MR2. I’d much rather have a Yaris. It’s just so…….?

can’t explain why. I don’t understand myself.

 

There's a lot of cars I'd like to drive and experience, but I have zero desire to own a pavement car outside of a commuter.

surprised it fit as decent as it did. i've got a 2020 toyota 86 radio in mine. the camera and wheel control stuff isnt too terrible to get working with readily available parts. hell toyota sells adapter harnessed for the wheel controls and the bluetooth mic part of the deal

 

Do you have any parts number for the steering wheel controls?

 

off had no. my whole steering wheel is from a 2009 4runner though. and the controls were from a 14 tacoma i did have to swap connector from to the right one though for the tundra clock spring

Makes me a little sad inside you had to cut that dash opening. These early models had the perfect size opening for double din radios. Later models required trim kits.

 

Finished up the sliders today. This is the first time I'm seeing the powder coat because they were wrapped up. Welded onto the frame and ready to go.

I'll elaborate.

There was a guy at an old workplace, circa 2000 ish. He got one new. I just think of him every time I see one. Granted there were some OK years but to me, Japanese sports cars don't age all that well. I know, blasphemy to some degree and the NSX is definitely outside of that broad brush. And I'd get a prelude if they made one again, or at least I'd look at it. Those headlights, the lack of interior space, not even enough for a decent stereo, the lack of safety being so low, light and exposed, it's just not there for me in any way.

I mean, if you're going to have everyone looking at you like you are truly an a-hole going through a mid life crisis (this is 100% not my assessment of Dan in any way) just get a darn 'vette and call it a day. I know, it's not a roadster but the 'vette is just everything I could ever want in terms of performance if I could somehow set aside the stigma. And, if you want a roadster, the Tesla just blows it all out of the water and then some without any real work other than paying the bill.

I think there was a moment when I sat in a Miata for the first time, wanted one since I was a kid and they debuted, when I realized that roadsters are just not as cool on the inside. A supra is sort of fun, a stealthy sporty vehicle. Same with the M5/M3's but they have gone astray.

A yaris, meanwhile, it's like a frugal Prius. It's the modern corolla (they aren't cheap anymore) and more fun too. And you can totally park it just about anywhere and give no f's at all. Speaking of the hatchback that is, it's like a smart car but actually smart b/c you can carry gear or passengers. The yaris sedan is a fair bit lamer.

I think I'm just too much of a wimpy driver to ever consider a zoom zoom. I'm too old. I drive like Clint Eastwood in The Mule.

 

But the mr2 has a frunk, and a trunk! And an engine lid between them! I’m plus t tops!
It’s not as impractical as people think. But it is severely limited on space for sure

 

I will say I have an ear to the ground on the MT 'rolla. It'll take a lot for me to forget the discomfort and terrible seating position of my '06 which had 120k+ on it when I traded it in? It was a perfectly reliable vehicle with absolutely zero fun at all, not even a hint. So an MT version with fun added, that could bring it back to life for me.

My dad actually bought his father (my grandfather) an MT white corolla as his last car. Then my grandfather sold it to his daughter who lived 2 doors down and took care of him for like 40 years (it was a gift from my dad). Then my grandfather continued to harass said daughter for not paying, he'd walk over to her window at night and say she never paid him for the car. It's funny now, they have both passed away. That was a halfway decent car. At least I remember it as MT, I could be mis-remembering. AT corollas, though, just total snooooooozefest.

 

So glad I went with the semi-flat powder coat. Some weld details.

Oh, interesting. I was expecting a bottom plate to transfer sheer? I will take a closer look at mine. I'm guessing the welds can accommodate the weight of the truck so no need for a plate? Or a bolt could be used if willing to drill the frame.

 

That's why I like the sleeper 4 door cars. You get no attention, they haul ass, and you have room for shit. With about $1k, an SHO can be deep in the 12s.

You musta missed the corolla xrs. That was one of the most fun cars I've had. Handled great. You just had to rev the snot out of it to go, which wasn't a bad thing.
