    Good evening.
On my Ford when I lock the truck the mirrors power fold and when I unlock they unfold. I can also push a button to force a power fold/unfold at anytime.
I was wondering if anyone had success wiring the boost power fold tow mirrors in such a way on a vehicle that did not come from the factory with power fold mirrors!

Haha, yup! @RainMan_PNW has an excellent write up on it. Worked like gangbusters for me and on my buddy's truck.

I’m in process of refining it a little, but yes. It’s not on lock /unlock, but rather on power on/off of the truck. I’m working on cleaning up the wiring to use a vampire harness to avoid any wire taps, and adding a switch to enable/disable the function as well.

You’re definitely right. The more I think about it the programming on Ford is more specific. As the truck also locks and unlocks in and out of park…and the mirrors don’t move on those commands.
So yes, power on and power off would be more desireable.

I’ll search for your write up! Thanks for doing the legwork on this project!!

I also thought about adding a switch so I can freeze them in extended mode for washing the truck vs having to turn IGN on to do that.

It would definitely be good to have a switch backup, that way in freezing temperatures you can turn the auto fold off. Don’t want to break any gears if they’re all frozen solid.

    My $0.02 :homer:

Working on it between having to fly to TX to work on other people’s trucks and having a day job…

The design of these mirrors have a spring loaded “key” that engages in a notch in the housing to actually drive the fold. If it encounters enough resistance, the key pops out of the notch and allows the motor to still move without the mirror going with it (or when something forcibly folds the mirror without the motor doing it).

It can still do damage if it happens often enough, but it’s less of an issue than a fully gear-driven system

Most of the trip is for my day job - have a conference in Austin.
The truck is just trying to fix something that isn’t working right from an install last fall.
