Confused and unsure on dealers P2743 error code recommendation for 2008 5.7L G-2, this is for the trans fluid temp sensor "TFT". I diagnosed the code at home using coworkers computer module, needed additional work on truck (universal joints, Diff service, rear wheel bearing replaced for total $3K) so Holiday, FL Toyota dealer provided est and they confirmed the TFT error code. They supposedly troubleshoot the PCM 5V output, control wire volts at harness, wire ohms for continuity and confirmed the sensor was actually bad. Background, I purchased truck with 243K, put Toyota factory rebuilt tranny in at my purchase, and now truck has 320K. Here's my confusion, from what I read, the pan can be dropped to access the sensor for replacement. Dealer told me they need to dorp tranny and do surgery to get at sensor or replace tranny. They also told me that the tranny is mechanically sound and fully operational and I can drive the truck as is. From what I researched, the TFT is critical for PCM to control tranny torque converter and efficient clutch operation, I have noticed the delayed shifting after I researched this. Am i being given bad advise from large Toyota dealer? Can i bring truck to a good tranny shop for sensor replacement? I do need $3K of legit maintenance repairs on a sound truck, should i trust a rebuilt tranny with 80K mi and bad TFT sensor for several upcoming 1000 mi trips? Input is appreciated, Rick.
