I broke my oem plastic tank skid. Replaced it with the RCI aluminum wish I would have got the steel. After a couple of hard trails it got scraped bad and a little bent but still protecting.

The method they use to steal the gas, they will go straight through those plates.

It will take them longer and make more noise when drilling thru a steel plate then a plastic tank. They would move on to the next vehicle.

    Man, I am not sure.
They’re using saws-all on the cats and that’s not exactly quiet. Even sometimes go right through cat shields.
It’s definitely better to have more than less, but for ~$500 something to consider.

Look up the price of a 38 gallon replacement tank.

I know how much it cost, but I am saying you’re replacing that plus losing the $500 plate because a drill bit will go right through it.

It's not all about the cost of the tank. It could easily become about tank availability. Sucks to think about waiting months to get a damn tank. On top of that you could have it happen again too.

An aluminum plate won't spark when you drill it. Dunno what fuel tanks are made of, but I'd bet they're made of a metal that won't spark either. :boink: :D

I wouldn't get aluminum, it would be steel. The tanks are plastic. Aluminum plate would be a waste of money, easily drilled and bent.

My only concern with the tank skid is clearance under full articulation and the driveshaft

I’m surprised Toyota hasn’t designed a system where the catalytic converter’s and the fuel tank simply sits in the cab of the truck. I mean, how simple would that be.
