I purchased my 2wd 2008 Tundra Limited a number of months ago. Absolutely hated how loud the tires were during my test drive and tried to get the dealer to change them out - No dice - Inventory was low and there was not much they would do.

Its been a bit and I'm pretty much done with them...The traction is terrible and the noise is nuts

Current tires are Nitro A2 Terra Grappler G2 - LT285/55 R20 122/119S. Would like to keep the wheels and just replace the ties with something that is quiter and has better traction.

    Suggestions would be appreciated.IMG_2260.jpgIMG_2261.jpgIMG_2262.jpg

I have KO2s and I like them a lot. Not much more noise then the factory Michelin LTX tires I had before.

That tread is pretty tame so if it still bothers you, maybe you should try a passenger tire.

Is this an oversized tire for this truck or is this the stock size?

I ran Cooper ST Maxx for 60,000 miles and they were fairly quiet but now I am running Yokohama Geolander G015 and i'm very happy. They are really quiet, smooth feeling which I am enjoying a lot.
I bought them on Ebay for a really great price.

2008, likely needs a good alignment. Likely needs a front end refresh of bushings, shocks, ball joints and tie rods. Poor alignment will eat any tires up and make them noisy. Those look like they were brand new when you got them.

How do you know when the bushings, ball joints, and tie rods need to be replaced? Just purchased an 08 w 125k. No road noise. But curious when I will need to do some front end work. Will only be putting on 2-3k miles a year.

I just purchased an ‘08 and they had put on Hankook Dynapro AT.

From what I’m reading they are one of the better AT for primarily highway use.

I don’t have much tread left so will likely order new ones.

Take it to a reputable mechanic. or if you’re mechanically inclined, put it up on jacks and take a pry bar to the bushing joint areas and give ‘em a wiggle. Slight controlled shifting is ok, large movement or gaps in bushing is not. Dry rot ranges from mile cracking, which may be ok, to separation of inner and outer portions of the rubber bushing. At 125k miles, some will be shot, some may have a lot of life left. The ball joints can be assessed on the truck by rocking the wheel back and forth at 12 and 6 on the tire, or broken free and wiggled by hand. The tie rods are the same rocking at 3 and 9. Replace with OEM or equivalent (not mevotech).

@KNABORES thanks. I checked yesterday. No play at 12/6 or 9/3 yesterday. I’ll check the bushings next. Appreciate it.

I had a good shop do a pre purchase inspection and everything checked out. I usually do all my own routine maintenance but hit up the shop for timing belts, head gaskets etc. so this is helpful. Thanks!

Good news is, you don’t have to worry about a timing belt on the 5.7.
