I assume my stock SR5 4x4 is adequate to handle standard flat dirt trails (basic off-terrain situations).

I'm interested in light/medium off-roading and wondering if the Off-Road Package (2,500) is sufficient

I see all these videos of other off-roaders with after-market mods which appears to require more accessories than the off-road package offers.

Thoughts? I don't plan on doing any extereme off-roading. Just something that can escape a possible zombie attack and need to get out of Dodge

I didn’t get the off-road package because I rather build my own off-road setup. So far it’s just RCI skid plates, cat guard, transmission skid and gas tank. If I travel more off-road I might look into better shocks for the washboard roads but that’s the only section I hate driving over in stock form. For some reason a mail truck with blown suspension glides over those bumps at 30mph but tundra jolts you every bump at 15mph.

i've got the sr5 4x4 offroad package in crewmax shortbed configuration. it handled flat dirt trails perfectly fine. i'd only say that i eventually plan on lifting + larger tires for higher clearance. going up some step-ups and down some ledges caused some damage to my exhaust tip and rear bumper caps, but other than that, it handled everything like a champ. i messed around with the MTS also, but i couldn't really tell the difference with having it off.

Any basic 4WD will suffice in light to moderate wheeling, our trucks having a longer wheel base can pose a challenge, but knowing how to navigate the terrain is most important (driver mod), tires make a huge difference as well, the OR package does have some features that can be beneficial but the rear locker is the only one I found to be of value
