@Tundra2 can you get me a pic of the door check on the driver side where it mounts to the a pillar. I need to figure out how tweaked my pillar is..

 

I could try today but I’m betting my doors are frozen shut.

No problem Dan. Is the only way to fix that to cut out, and then weld in new?

I'd think the A-pillar should physically be the same as any access cab, yes?

 

New RC cab will be hard to find I bet. But could give a perfect repaint then transfer parts.

Broke my column shifter today at the local sonic. Had to fin-nagle everything together by hand to shift into reverse, and then drive to get home, but made it.

The two arrows are where the metal on the column is broken... There's three screws that holt this shift mechanism on (Which I already have... from the very beginning of this thread. Glad I never returned it.)

If anyone can run down what the part number is for the metal piece it bolts to... I'd appreciate ya...

Yep. I was the first to post a fix on it. It’s less than a couple hundred in parts to fix.

I believe I also post the part numbers as well. It’s cheaper if it’s not tilt steering but I think most of them had it.

I have no fucking clue to be honest. It'd probably be wise to just replace the whole column when I do my steering rack because of the squeaky steering column which I posted about way back when. Thoughts?

This is what appears to be broken on mine. I'd love to do a thorough tear down, and rebuild, but time...

The part I have pointed out is what I believe is broken off of mine. It's called a steering column housing support.

 

Ah yes. It's interesting this comes up as often as it does in the earlier trucks... @Jack McCarthy says he was going to post a link here, but I don't see it:

Here's a that thread from TS and it has part numbers in reply # 24 on page 2: And another TS thread: Clearly this is a defect in Toyota's manufacturing. Seems a bit of a problem. Guess I should add this to the new-to-Tundra thread.

I personally wouldn't say mine was defective... I really cranked it into park. Not getting into "why" but I don't believe mine was going to fail... I wonder if that could be replaced with steel...

Meanwhile, updating my previous reply with this other TS link that outlines the parts: I personally think it's a defect. For it to break in that exact spot for so many people suggests too much fatigue potential on that part in that spot.

 

Thanks again for all these links. I'll pass on machining I guess unless I could have a bunch of them made for everybody here. I see what you're saying about it breaking like that so often.

 

This is what I had listed from before. The part numbers should match:

Parts:
OEM support bracket: part # 45859-07010
OEM shaft assembly: part # 33501-0C011
Optional parts (does not include the 3 screws for mounting the shaft to the support bracket - mine were good):
OEM tilt steering pivot pins/bolts (2 total): part #45856-07010
OEM torx lobular screws for mounting support bracket (4 total): part #90080-10048
OEM screw to hold column shifter arm into shaft (1 total): part #90080-16070

 

BTW, cast aluminum is not ideal for any structural support since it can develop stress cracks at any time. The design is also not optimal as someone has pointed out in the past. Toyota won’t do anything unless you get hurt over the incident.

 

Someone else psts a fix on here - IIRC, if involved drilling the metal and installing pins to hold it together, then locking it? I forget. But there's definitely been a fix posted for this that requires no parts.

I'd love to just have one made of steel, but it is what it is. While I'd like to do a quick fix, I just want it done right. My biggest enemy is time.
