The weather station is in the master... It displays current weather conditions (from weather app sources), a remote t-stat (dog kennels), and "room temp" the bedroom (crypt)....

When I lived in Vegas and ran AC to the dog kennels, I was super anal about monitoring temps (especially w/the occasional power outages, etc.), so it kinda carried over into retirement life.

Interesting, for the pups, was it a central unit or bs window shakers? Did you have backups for power outages?

Used a 6000 CFM Bonaire swamp cooler for the kennels 300sqft building. It's an australian unit w/a circular fan (not the traditional squirrel cage style unit) worked really well... Kennel had (5) runs; each kennel had 4x4 interior 'stall' and 5x10 exterior 'runs'. The inside had running water, drain, A/C and heat (when rarely necessary)... The kennel building was made out of block and the block and ceiling was very well insulated, so even when power went out (the building would stay comfortable for several hours), but I just maintained a small generator to power the fan and water pump if power was out during a really hot day

Most days it was nicer in the kennel than it was in the house...

    Over the years... 3 Mals, 2 Dutch Shepherds, 2 GSDs, 3 Spaniels, 1 Rott/Ridgeback mix, and 1 Shepherd/Husky mix!

No breeding... I worked 2 of the Mals, 1 DS and 2 of the Spaniels... The rest were purely family pets or adopting of 'very difficult to handle' dogs

This was our last load heading to PNW from Vegas when I retired...
    upload_2022-12-22_21-37-54.jpg

Wife was already in OR w/3 of our pups and my truck, so I brought the U-hual, her vehicle, a spaniel and one of those 'very difficult to handle mals'.... He was a SWAT dog retired early due to 'control issues' (and handler made some bad decisions in the street w/him resulting in some bad bites), so they pulled the dog from service. The problems were not the dog's lack of trainability but rather poor placement of the dog w/an inappropriate handler and lack of understanding of how to properly manipulate strong drives by a young trainer. His handler did not want to take him in retirement (concerned for liability issues) and the Department was going to euthanize per policy. Dog was still relatively young and its issues were not the dog's fault. Very poor mid and upper level mgt decisions. Long story... Anyhow, I got a text of what they were planning to do w/him and about lost my freakin mind .... Because of my kennel set up, my family situation at home, and my experience working strong dogs, I was allowed to take him and provide a home. I do my best to keep him active and 'worked', but it's really too bad he's a great dog that should still be working the streets...

90lbs of Mal enjoying his ride in the Uhaul as we pass over some water....
    upload_2022-12-22_21-47-14.jpg

A day later trying to figure out what's happening... He was settling in nicely on the 2nd day of his road trip... This wasn't his longest trip though, as he was born in Holland and brought here to the US at only 14 months to be exactly what he is; an incredibly strong dog that is driven to hunt and subsequently hand someone their ass when appropriate... As I already said, he should still be working, but I do my best to keep him healthy and active and to satisfy his drives through tracking, other hunt games and some apprehension work!!!!
    upload_2022-12-22_21-48-31.jpg

... don't get me wrong, he's an absolute handful and I have to be careful w/him around others, but an incredible dog!!!!

Agility would be a blast; that and flyball are two very high energy dog activities that they seem to love!!!!

Shit, I almost forgot about the wife's Black Lab and her Border Collie (your cattle dog made me think of him)... That dog (the border collie) was absolutely nuts, but he got along so well with the DS I worked for several years. The relationship between those 2 was weird, but the DS balanced out a lot of the quirks in the border collie. We were like the brady bunch (but w/dogs) when we got together...

Once the DS retired and became more 'integrated' with the family structure, the border collie was seriously glued to him...

Ok, enough sharing, but at least they are Tundra photos... so, that makes it appropriate!!!

What up Cru. Hopefully everyone is staying warm enough. Brown liquor helps I hear. Merry Christmas to the best squad! Enjoy it.
