Wanted to get some opinions on what y'all would do in this situation.

Picked up my Tundra SR5 TSS Off Road on 21 Sep. Evening of 22 Sep, I noticed a ticking noise coming from the transmission while the truck was idling. Took it to local dealer on 23 Sep and they were not able to determine where noise was coming from. Took it back to the dealer this morning and spoke to the service manager. Service manager contacted Toyota (said it was the office above Toyota field technical specialist). Toyota specialist directed him to send videos of the noise and accomplish some additional troubleshooting steps. After reviewing the video Toyota rep said that the noise was concerning and authorized my service manager to replace the transmission.

I appreciate everything that the service manager and Toyota rep did today (Saturday) to remedy my issue. However, my question is this--would you be ok with having Toyota replace your transmission in a brand new vehicle with less than 200 miles or would you ask the dealer to provide you with a new vehicle? I don't want to be unreasonable, but this has been a little bit of a gut punch. TIA

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Being such I new vehicle and Toyota stepped up to swap the transmission on there end they did much more than any other manufacturer would have done.

Unless you have a lemon law in your state you can go that route but Toyota did attempt to resolve the problem.

When the Tundra first came out A gentleman from Texas had his rear end come loose and Toyota replaced the entire rear end which led to the re-torquing of the rear bolts recall.

I’m going through a fuel Guage issue with my 22 Tundra and Toyota engineering is testing software on mine so unfortunately we bought brand new trucks but Toyota is responding which is a huge plus.

OP, you can try asking the dealer to buy that truck back and get another one. But no guarantees that the new one will not have a problem. It may have worst problem. Ask for free rental vehicle too.

    Wow...

Sorry to hear this, it should not have happened.

But if this were to happened to ram truck, you'd be on your tenth visit to the dealer, with them trying to fix your current transmission, and without truck for two months... So it's not too bad.

I would be okay with Toyota replacing the transmission without asking for a truck replacement. As a member of the manufacturing environment, i know that things go wrong. It doesn't mean that the truck is bad and the replacement should remove your issues

I had my transmission and torque converter replaced on my 22 after 3000 miles. It would randomly slam into the wrong gear and wouldn’t let me move.

4 repair attempts, last one being the full replacement. 32 days out of service. Toyota agreed it was a lemon but would only offer a buy back. I wanted a replacement because a buy back would leave me without a truck for however long it took to find a new one, plus cost me about $7k more. Ohio has sales tax credit for trade in, so I paid very little tax on this one, say $1200. Toyota offered to pay me back the $1200, but if I were to buy a new car, I’d have to pay full price sales tax, which would be about $4000. Also, finance rates are about 2% higher and msrp on 23’s will be about $2k higher.

I went through the whole arbitration process, Toyota even agreed it was a lemon, but refused to give me a replacement. Arbitration came back and said it wasn’t as lemon and I get nothing. Luckily, arbitration isn’t binding on my side and I can still go to court.

all that to be said… good luck on getting a replacement, they simply won’t do it and arbitration is rigged towards the manufacturer.

Hey OP, is there any update? I just got my truck back from the dealer with the same noise and they confirmed they need to replace the trans.
