1st gen Tundra vs Other newer half tons

Tundras like oem parts, and lots of our 1st gen stuff is getting discontinued.

If you take care of it, even nissans and dodges can run forever. (But i've been told my titan is a fluke, and the only reason it still works at 290k is because my doors, windows, and seats are manual)

 

I hear you, but no love even for a Guzzi?

 

Did the Italians ever work out how to slow the rust menace... and the electrical gremlins? Pretty to look at till the paint starts bubbling.

 

I don't like the stink bug rear end look of new bikes. Guzzi does make a current model called a Classic I think that still looks like a proper motorcycle. Just one of few. I've always liked these, although old and too expensive on the used market.

 

I miss the power of my '12 Tundra; BUT I love the ease of wrenching on my '05, and Toyota reliability. When I bought my truck last summer (paid $3k over book), and despite some body issues (roof dent, crunched rear bumper, and missing skid plate), I love the simplicity of the truck. It's paid off, and after buying it I put $2,000 worth of general engine maintenance work into it to keep it going. I love the truck. Tough to justify $50K on average for other base model new trucks. Cheaper to just maintain, then buy new.

 

I like the MotoGuzzi V7. I bought BMW R Nine T last summer. It's been a great bike, and has some classic lines. The Royal Enfield line has classic lines at an affordable price point.

 

Still trying to sort out the differences in years and trucks here. Do all 05/06 tundras have VSC or just the DC models?

 

Also, what about the A-Trac. If the truck has A-Trac does it then also have VSC?

 

Vehicle Stability Control was optional on all trims of the '05-'06 models. At least according to the '05 brochure I have.

 

It was all a part of a package:

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)4,5 with Traction Control (TRAC), Brake Assist,6 Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and automatic limited-slip rear differential

 

Did any first gen have atrac? I thought that system was newer.

 

I’m stocked up on Toyota trucks as if 2035 will be the end of the road for ICE pickups. We shall see.

The 2022 Tundra is growing on me but I really do like a v8 for a bigger truck. At the same time, I love my ‘05 RC Tacoma with the I4 too. I paid through the nose for it, effectively MSRP 17 years after the fact, but it’s clean and problem free.

Of my three trucks, the one I could part with easiest would be the 2016 double cab. But that’s also the only halfway decent family vehicle I own. I could see swapping it for a sequoia or 4Runner now that I have the ‘05 for my MT fix.

I never liked my ‘02 Tundra as a daily though. Too big and thirsty. The solo LCA’s do give it better turning radius and the backup camera helps a lot. A front camera will be appreciated once I get that done.

I personally think there is some ok value in 2005-2009 Tacomas compared to all other Toyota trucks. First Gen Tacos are overpriced, everyone wants one. Third gens too, may as well buy new. But 2nd Gen Tacoma is slightly less overpriced once in a while as old owners trade for 3rd Gen looks. It’s the same basic truck too.

I wouldn’t mind owning a 2016-2021 crew max in quicksand someday. But I top out at 30k for any vehicle purchase and I don’t have room for 3 trucks as it is.

I believe that the 04-06 with VSC/ traction control have the complicated hydroboost master cylinder. I don't believe they have "A-Trac", but they do have normal traction control with a button to turn it off I believe. They also have a button for the Auto-LSD. The Auto-LSD is what the 2.5 gens and other Toyotas have - it simulates an LSD in the rear end through braking. The Auto-LSD is different than the mechanical LSD other 1st gens had.

Most later 1st gens don't have this stuff, but I believe it was more common on DCs than AC & RC.

Easiest way to tell if the truck has any of this stuff is by the master cylinder/ brake booster combo.

 

Face down, ass up, thats the way i like to...pass miles of traffic at triple digits on the shoulder.


the titan doesnt have a traction button, but will fiddle the brakes if a tire breaks loose. Since i dont have a trac button in the tundra, does that mean i dont have traction control at all? It doesnt feel like i do, i've powerslid a few corners in the wet in 2wd, but the titan will do it too.
