Anybody ever have an issue with a tundra radio and associated touch screen?

Mine started flashing, dealer did software update, didn't work. Now they tell me I need a new radio, $3000 plus!

Ridiculous, no Tundra stereo in a 2014 model costs 3000. Look around, you will be able to find a used one for cheap or just go aftermarket, which will blow away the stock units performance and sound quality.

Have heard of possible issues with replacing with used radios, but this was not in a tundra. When the used radio was installed, computer locked the owner out and vehicle had to be towed to a dealer to unlock. Anybody for see this issue with a used radio in a Tundra?

given some of the sweet aftermarket ipad touchscreen styles available there's no way in hell i'd plunk 3k down to have the same thing again.

Just wondering what aftermarket products anyone has found particularly good?

    Welcome to the forum.
There are several threads on aftermarket HUs.
    I'm running a Kenwood in my 2014.

You'll need an interface, like an iDatalink Maestro, to keep your steering wheel controls..

If you aren't comfortable doing it yourself, a decent local shop can install an after-market HU and Maestro for much less that $3K.

Look around on the Crutchfield site.
Their customer service can be very helpful.
As well they can prewire your new HU and adapter so you can install it yourself.

Crutchfield: Car Stereo and Audio, Speakers, Home Theater, Pro Audio, TVs

You won't lose any settings or options you currently have in your radio.

Big fan of my Dasaita headunit - had one in my last vehicle, a Highlander, as well. $480 self-installed in about 15 minutes, plug and play with no wire splicing, keeps all settings and controls, and a massive upgrade in sound quality. My SR5 had an under-seat fake amplifier I bypassed as it limited the Dasaita, took a small $15 harness, if you've got that.

Nice that it's customizable, and Android Auto / Apple Car Play wireless makes for superior navigation to even the newest Tundras headunits.

Edit - that being said, I have my stock headunit you could have for like, $300 shipped. If you're near my corner of MN I'll even install it for you.

Thanks MCM, will keep that in mind, I'm in Canada, not close enough to your corner!
