I have the Traxion 5-100 Tailgate Ladder on my 2014 Tundra. I like it for loading my trials bike since it unfolds to the driver's side and clear of the ramp. I've had it on the tailgate since 2016 and would buy it again but....my wife thinks it's too wobbly. It could easily be tightened up by using nuts/bolts/washers.

    https://www.amazon.com/Traxion-5-10...cint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583863993132542

I'll be getting an OEM Bed Step for my 2023 Tundra instead of the tailgate ladder for right now. And when the wife isn't looking, I'll get another tailgate ladder just like what I had!

I'm 53 and in decent shape and I'm very glad I added the step. It keeps you from putting you knees on the tailgate over and over. That may not be a big deal the first time getting into the bed however it makes a lot of difference if you are packing for a trip or something that requires multiples up and down trips. I get that it could be affected by road salt etc, fortunately we don't have that issue in the NC Piedmont and you will have to pay attention to putting it back up when done. With that said I believe it is well work the $280 and its any easy install. I don't know about the gen 3's however there is a thread here on the forum showing how to install on the '07-'21 without taking the bumper apart. If you put the rear of the truck on a ramp that helps a lot and it can be completed in 45 minutes. OEM part comes with no instructions but YouTube has plenty of good videos.

i found one at a dealer. Seems that all the online parts places that offer a discount (~30%) are backordered from Toyota.

Ordered the bed step from my local dealer Dec. 12. Just called today and still on national backorder with no ETA.

@geewizard :. How easy is it to remove the ladder when you want to put something big in the bed that extends into the tailgate? And are there anything on the tailgate that stick up that would interfere with say a full sheet of plywood? Thanks

I have put full sheets of plywood over the top of the ladder when it's in the stowed position. It's maybe 1-1.5" high. No problem for me. Or it is easy to remove as well.

Good to know, thanks. What holds the ladder tight to the tailgate? Straps, metal clips?

I found two Toyota dealers with the bed step in stock: Rogers Toyota, Lewiston, ID and Heartland Toyota, Bremerton, WA.

    MSRP price......

Metal bracket screwed to tailgate. And a strap to hold the ladder tight to the tailgate. I made a bungee cord mod with a mini biner that was better IMHO.

I just received the bed step from my local dealership but it didn’t come with the bracket to hook to frame of the truck. Not sure why all parts needed to install wouldn’t be included…maybe it’s not a true kit. The parts department ordered another to see what happens…

Looking like we have to order the step for $250-$270, and order the bracket for another $110…

I installed the OEM Toyota bed extender today, NO DRILL, took 10mins. Very nice. Will come in handy with a short bed. Plus I have the Retrax PRO, which the box hangs into the bed, does get in the way. Thinking the bed extender should help.

What do you think about the retrax pro? My concern is that it takes up too much space with the canister

I’ve only had the RetraxPRO for a couple months.

    PROS
    - Looks great
    - glides/opens smooth (currently little use, I don’t think it’s broken in yet, my guess is it will glide even easier over time)
    - lockable, little more security
    - fairly easy to install, roughly an hr +/-

    CONS
    - takes up almost a foot of space in bed
    - expensive ( I got a deal from AutoAnything in Nov $1700)

    UNKNOWN
    - haven’t tested to see how it will work in cold winter months with snow, ice etc…

I second that you can find the OEM step for discounts at certain dealers. I ordered mine at ~13% discount from a local dealer, but the ordered was canceled today due to a massive backorder. They still put me on the backorder list and I can pick it up when available, but no ETA as of yet.

Got my OEM Step for $270 and love it, it’s worth the wait. I find it particularly great for loading/unloading lots of gear/luggage for a vacation (lots of in and out). A necessary addition, even though it does look goofy hanging off the bumper.

Its very well built, but loves to collect road sand and grime here in the northeast.

Harr in Worcester. Shipped to my house for free. It was through the Toyota parts website, not direct from dealer.
