Today was supposed to be the day... Go get my shiny new Blueprint DC Limited...
I always take early winter weather forecasts with a grain of salt... They're often wrong...
    Well not this time.
Inch of snow, and now sleet/freezing rain coming down on top of it. That is some nasty crap out there...
    Lather rinse repeat for tomorrow...
    Not tons, but enough...
Dealer isn't open on the weekend...
Township hasn't touched the road yet.
Now I gotta wait until Monday.
I do not want to crack up a brand new truck on the return leg from the dealer...
    Crap.

Love that Blueprint color. I feel your pain. Dealer called last night and told me my new MGM 1794 was in. Cold rain all day today and I can't see getting it all dirty on its maiden voyage so I will wait until at least tomorrow to go pick it up. Good things come to those that wait... so I am told.

Picked up my mgm 1794 all detailed out and that is as clean as it gets. That day was sunny when i got to the dealer and 2 hours later it was starting to rain and it soon began pouring down with a 60 mile drive so we definitely got her dirty. I would wait if at all possible just for at least the first trip home to be clean as possible

What’s the big deal? They’re trucks, drive them like they’re trucks. Was raining when I picked mine up. It rained most of the two hour drive home. I was ready to load it up the next day and take it to hunting camp for elk season but the wife was like “why get it all dirty when we still have the old pickup?” Well, because it’s a truck and that’s what I bought it for.
Then again, mine’s Cement, not supposed to show dirt. Proved the salesman wrong on that…..

I took the delivery of my blueprint when it was rainy and gray out. They truck looked perfect at the time. When it was dry the next day I saw swirl marks all over one of the doors where they poorly buffed something out before I got it.

that’s a good point. In that weather you’d hope they’d have it inside and all dolled up for you to properly inspect

I had my last brand new truck off-road within 50 miles of driving it off the lot.

I could care less about dirt.
I wouldn't take my Outback out in this crap unless it was an emergency, and I guarantee that AWD system will handle this better than a 4WD pickup.
If it was just snow, I'd be out there. I don't screw around with ice.

I always tell dealer DO NOT DETAIL MY NEW TRUCK, DO NOT TOUCH IT! I took it home, washed it myself, used IronX spray to get rid of the metal dust, then installed ceramic coating. It's not easy to do it on your own, takes lots of research and practice, but is possible. Professional installation of ceramic coating can be up to $1-2k

The poorly paid detailing guys at the dealership will just end up putting in more swirls and small scratches into the paint...

If you want to take care of your paint, don't let them detail it.

There's a lot more to it - how to properly wash your car, care for your paint, use sealant or ceramic coating... Autogeek.com has lots of helpful tutorials and products.

I feel ya. I had to drive my 07 from Boise to Missoula in one of the worst winter storms (had been stuck in Boise for almost a week due to road closures), then turn around and drive it to Kalispell to trade in for my new 14 the next day. The drive that day was terrible, it snowed over 3ft between 9-5pm and continued to dump all night. They had some issues getting my new truck aligned and lifted and I left the dealership at 9pm for a normal 2.5hr drive home, took 5- complete white out and gnarly roads. Woke up the next day to 3 additional feet of snow and had to drive the new truck to Bozeman, MT for the weekend. Luckily it survived.

I bought 3 jugs of washer fluid for my first trip home with my Tundra, and used almost 2 of them by the time I parked it in my driveway IIRC. It was a 1150km / 11.5 hour trip one way, but…

May as well wait for spring.:boink:

Most of us don’t buy a new truck that many times in our life. I say have it your way whether you wait for clear skies or enjoy drifting around corners in the snow or mud on the way home. I waited for clear skies, flew out with my daughter and had a memorable nine hour road trip that she still talks about. Its worth the wait. Enjoy your new truck.
