I'm a simple man. I like older Toyota/Lexus 4x4 vehicles. I think it was @FrenchToasty that had "6 lug enthusiast" in their bio and I thought that was perfect.

I can't see myself ever buying something like a BMW unless I am rich. There is no way I would know how to work on something like that.

If I wanted something that got good MPG I would probably buy a newer RAV4. I even like some of the sporty Corolla models I've seen. If they made one with a manual transmission I'd opt for that.

If it’s a lifestyle, they should ditch the jacket and add coveralls.

What is a BMW lifestyle? Two of the three BMW owners I know are pretentious pricks but that’s out of a sample of three people. lol

The third is a friend of mine but he buys his used after it depreciates to a reasonable price.

No offense to any BMW owners here.

My cousin bought an opel that calls itself a cadillac because he wants to seem rich, but he doesnt want to take the bumper skin off or pay the $600 to replace the $6 driving light bulbs.

i had to fabricobble some reinforcemts for the trunk trim that holds the rear liscense plate lights. It's held up better than dads infiniti (rattles), but he's washed the paint off the wheels and roof. And its 8-10 years newer.

Former. No offense taken. That car sure was fun in the snow with it's skinny snow tires, RWD & turn-offable TCS. Back when you could still get a manual transmission. But the little bit of computer voodoo it had annoyed me enough I finally sold the car.

Gas light? Never had one. Just to make sure, I ran it completely outta gas a couple times... Yep, no light. Changed the bulb, ran it outta gas again, still no light. I've got a pretty good idea how far the needle will travel past the last mark now, but it's not an ideal strategy. Gonna have to drop the tank if I want one of them fancy gas lights I keep hearin about...

Anyone who owns an older beemer spent $3k plus on it last year. Next year that could be you!! Don’t get a BMW if you’re looking for trouble free. The 2 are mutually exclusive. They stopped being semi-reliable when Vanos was introduced, in the 90’s.

Edit: anything BMW AWD or X-drive in their own parlance is a hand grenade with the pin pulled. It’s not if the center diff will blow up, it’s when.

Just top off fluids every day, or every other day.

Easier for me to add fluids since i dont usually carry an air tank.

I ordered the TRD Oil Filters (PTR4300080) on Nov 26th and only one shipped from them on the 7th. Still waiting on the other 2, but they were packaged well from Serra.

Toyota, on the other hand, doesn't package these as well (IMO) as they do the normal ones (90915YZZD3) and there's no plastic protecting the gasket area in transit.

TBD. Pulled an oil sample yesterday when I did the change (YZZD) with 3,585 miles on the Mobil 1 Full Syn. It was decently black.
Swapped to the Penzzoil Platinum High Mile Full Syn and the TRD filter. Will go about 3500 miles as well and send a sample off to Blackstone then too.

Should've kept with Mobil 1 to do a better 1:1 test, but had already planned moving to the Pennz & purchased it, then I snagged the TRD filter...

Found zero posts about the filter here but always contemplated the TRD oil filter when I saw it on the site. Here's a video I had found where someone cut it open, basically better ability to filter....

Not that it matters but I didn’t win any raffle items. Was really hoping for that beer collection or the OF king ranch whiskey. Oh well. Still my money went towards a great cause.

I was glad to see a few 1st gen members won.

I have the same flashlight that @Tundra2 won and it's awesome. Some of my friends still buy poor quality flashlights and I've tried to tell them having a good light is a game changer.

I'm just really impressed with how much money was raised and how generous the gifts were. This forum is full of good people.

@shifty` , got the beam rolling. Kind of a lot setup but looks good to go. I have two settings I’m not sure of yet, need to research. Digital audio out I have set to Dolby but not sure what PCM is all about. Then Analog audio out I have as variable but not sure that does anything with hdmi ARC, probably not.

    nice sound.

Oh, and no sub out. I guess they want you to buy their sub. Hah.

    I know, right?

Camry is great. Avalon is great. Rav4 is great. Hell, my parents just went out and bought a '23 Corolla, the non-hybrid netted them 38mpg on the way here from southern AL a couple weeks back.

Buy-when-depreciated is a good course, but you're still dumping money into it. Everything BMW made after the 80's was strategically manufactured for job security/employment purpose. Won't buy again. I prefer stuff Volkswagen Auto Group makes if going German.

2nd Gen is where it's at IMHO. I don't recall what year yours is.

Yeah, if you feel you need extra pounding bass, you'd hafta buy theirs.

You have a choice between Dolby and PCM - PCM is "basic stereo sound" I'd say. You'll get more out of Dolby.

Actually, most people around here who bought BMWs in the past are now buying Audi A4s & A6s. Seems like nobody likes the run-flats BMW now uses. That and the fact Audi offers AWD.

But BMW has Xdrive too (awd). My wife had a 2008 X3 and it was a champ in the snow. Fairly luxurious but way too many electrical problems and mechanically wasn’t fun to work on or cheap. Wouldn’t buy again lol

Well then I guess I don’t know why the Audi is more attractive with worse reliability unless that’s changed.
