I feel so disappointed, maybe it was a fluke....?

Saw a 2023 MGM Platinum the other day up close and looked thru the windows as it was locked. At that moment I knew I was getting a Platinum but I couldn't decide between MGM or WCP color. The truck looks SOOOO MUCH bigger and better in person, online pics do not do this truck justice! Anyways, it was a quick stop look and go. I had the wife and kids with. This morning I got up and took the wife with and went to one of the local dealers to look at 2 Tundras on the lot and take a test drive, one was a black Platinum $65k. At first look I had the same "I gotta get one of these" thoughts like I had a couple days ago. My wife starts really looking at the details of the vehicle and points out on the interior passenger door, the triangle plastic trim that's loose, rattles and just reeks of cheapness. Then I started carefully looking over the rest of the interior such as console and door panels that creek and flex and rattle. I also made my way to the exterior and saw the wheel well moldings bowed and separated from the body with gaps, the plastic pieces on the sides of the front grille loose and rattle. The main part of the grill flexing and rattling as I tugged on it. My heart sank and I just felt disappointed.....let down! I had Toyota on this high pedestal and was so displeased with the quality of what I was seeing and touching. I'm still shocked and baffled. Was this a fluke? I did not test drive either.

New tundra is a looker, but all these QC issues sound disappointing. Is there a poll for quality issues yet? Seems like there should be if there isn't, especially when most are spending over 60k for a new vehicle.

I have no idea how some of those trucks get through. Mine is absolutely well built. Zero rattles or anything misfiring. It’s super smooth and quiet at highway speeds.

Probably some Ford and Ram salesmen mixed in as their lots are pretty full of new trucks.

Yeah been driving me for a few days now and although super early I haven’t heard any wind noise, lag, quality issues in interior, nothing. Getting over 21 mpg (until it’s lifted). I’m happy

I would wait to pass judgement until you drive it. It’s a powerful, smooth machine that is very capable. I agree there are a few things I wish were a little tighter or designed differently, but the heart and soul of these trucks is on point.

2022 Limited Hybrid here and is rock solid and quiet as a mouse while driving except for the damn synthetic engine noise. No issues or flaws to report. I'm certain though if you take a magnify glass to any brand there will be flaws. You can count on Toyota passing you by at the dealer while you address drivetrain issues with your non Toyota BET

    Lots of stuff!
There are things about ours that I don’t like but overall it seems solid. Once the more aggressive tires are on it will look better. The chrome moustache is a real head scratcher. But nothing that can’t be changed. So far I like the tech and the big screen.

    What’s wrong with stock?
You don’t own a Tundra nor did you test drive one. How in the world did you hear the creeks and rattles? Just asking. The one I own and drive has great fit and finish. No rattles no issues. Sure it’s not built to the same specs as a Rolls Royce, but then again they have issues too.

Please tell us about the quality of the Yugo you drive.

Not a fluke. Every manufacturer has issues. Especially after a completed redesign. The previous gen fanboys on here will tell you the 3rd gen is the worst ever built. Just listen to how their 1st,2nd,2.5 gen have absolutely no problems. Plus they have tow hooks and rear bumpers you can step on. I would steer clear and head over to the Big 3 for a 1/2 ton truck. Toyota will probably work out the bugs, just may take 10 yrs.

Gees, i was disappointed in the fit and finish of a PLATINUM Tundra I was excited about and ASKED if it was a fluke one I saw and some of you attack like im against your special agenda or something. Some tundra owners on here are just as disappointing! I used to be like that when I was 15 or 16.[/QUOTE]

    :rasta:

... ok, I'm back! Uhhh... give it a year or two for the industry to turn back around again w/quality control and such, and then you'll probably find a better product floating around out there!

Good luck on your quest, and I hope you find something that fits your needs and expectations!!!

Nope, not a fluke. I'm not a hater or trying to stir the pot; I've owned a 22 for almost a year. The fit and finish does not match the price point of these vehicles. I don't have rattles when I drive, but many pieces on the interior creak at the slightest touch. The door panels look like they are going to pull off every time we use the handle to pull the door shut. If you think the finish is bad, just wait until you have to deal with customer service at the corporate level...terrible.

I feel and hear the door and grab handles creak. The interior quality is well below that of the 5th gen 4Runner I traded in.

If you need a full-size truck, I think the 3rd gen tundra is the best new truck option at the moment. The road manners are great. I feel that I'm just driving a 4Runner...until I have to find parking :) Even my non-hybrid can tow as much a v8...at least based on the videos I've watched.

In the end, I accepted these cheap quality interior issues and trusted that Toyota has fixed the wastegate issue. But I also decided to buy the mid-level trim with the thinking that if I absolutely hated the truck and traded it in, then I'd hopefully not lose too much money.

What I didn't want to deal with are the possible transmission issues that have been documented to exist with other brands. I only researched about these issues after I test drove a new truck that shifted roughly, shook and lunged. I can’t stand these types of issues. I previously went from a 2nd gen tacoma to a 5th gen 4runner because I noticed the gear-hunting issue with the 3rd gen taco during my test drive and confirmed my thoughts by searching forums and youtube.

I suggest that the OP drive trucks from all the competing brands and go from there.

i have a late Nov 22, no creaks or rattles, but horrible wind noise, horrible noise from hvac when recirculation is used, my door locks feels like a toy switch, its the most pos door lock I have had in all of my cars that I have owned, and I have gone through like 10+ toyotas it seems, plus all sorts of other vehicles from other brands. The interior is quite lackluster for the price point of these trucks, my window seals are all wacko and my right rear pass window can move like 1/4" when you push on it in the door/track. The interior finish has crazy flashing on the plastic trim pieces (super common problem for injection molded plastic parts). I just drove my 2014 camry and the interior is so much better put together, all the weather stripping around door still look properly fitted/molded for the car 9 years later unlike my brand new Tundra.

I am still shocked how Toyota put their name behind this truck, alot of these trim pieces should have never made it onto the assembly line. This is just my opinion after owning like 10+ toyotas since like 1988.

The truck powertrain is great, and looks good, everything else is just meh

I have a 2023 limited, I’ve only had her 2 weeks and half of that she sat in airport parking while I was in Hawaii . I haven’t noticed any creaking issues. I bought the truck because I think it looks better than the other current trucks and for the Toyota reliability, I traded in my 3rd gen Tacoma, and it handles the better than any other full size truck.
