After 6 long months of waiting, I finally picked up my Super Pacific X1 in Portland yesterday. I thought I was going to be the first Double Cab 3rd gen, but turns out Im the first 3rd gen PERIOD! Made it about 90 minutes after leaving their shop before cutting a huge hole in one of the doors and installing a sliding window for improved pup transportation.

Really nice facility and group of guys! My biggest gripe is that they told me I have to wire my own 3rd brake light. Canopies 30% of the cost of this thing do it for free as part of the install, yet SP refuse to do it due to liability. I've done it myself before so it's not like it's difficult or anything, but 100% should be included as part of their process.

For the 3rd gen Tundras they moved the front window up substantially to allow for the bed camera to still work. It's awesome they retained this functionality, but it comes at the cost of having that window at a really awkward height. The bottom of the window is about halfway up my rear window so while I can see in well with the bed camera. I cannot see in the bed AT ALL without it. This combined with the height of the rear window make for a very awkward visual passage out the back. You can really only see things 50ft+ behind you. Perfect for double checking the bikes are okay on the rack, but driving visibility isn't great.

I was informed of a few new products coming down the pipe while I was chatting with the guys:

    1. A snow skirt that slide into the T track up top and drapes down over all 3 walls to prevent snow build up at the bottom edge and provide additional thermal insulation. Apparently when camping in the snow, it tends to build up in the gutters at the bottom of the tent. The heat from the tent then melts the snow, which refreezes out near the corners where there is less heat. This causes the drain holes to be frozen over and the melted snow will begin to ingress into the tent. The snow skirt will prevent this, albeit at the cost of visibility and being able to open/use the doors. The skirt will need to be taken on/off each time. It cannot fit into the clamshell.

    2. Interior insulation package. This will add an additional level of thermal insulation to the tent walls and ceiling for cold weather applications. It will also need to be put up and taken down separately as it will not fit inside the clamshell.

    3. Sliding side windows. Their lack of this option was originally a deal breaker for me before deciding to just add one myself. Hauling dogs around, I want them to be able to get fresh air and stick their heads out.

Here's what you've all been waiting for though. PICS!!!!

Window Install: (I've NEVER done anything like this before. I've used a jigsaw on wood a handful of times in my life, but never done anything this high consequence. It was quite nerve wracking, but came out great!)

Thanks! I'm super excited for it. I'm building it out to travel and live out of it for a few years. Gonna hit every state in the US and every country in both Americas. Heading up to Alaska and the Arctic Circle next summer to kick it off

I've got the bed loaded with a bunch of stuff I'm bringing to SLC tomorrow so it's not in a good place for photos at the moment, but I will here soon. There's not really anything going on back there yet besides my bed slide though. I have all these ideas about how I wanna build out the back, but I keep telling myself to slow down, make due with what I already have for now, and build out the back over time as I find needs/wants instead of trying to anticipate them and build it out now.

The overall idea is the slide will allow me to sleep under the stars on nice nights if I so choose, as well as act as a work surface and kitchen. I also need to be able to fit 2 large mountain bikes in the bed when I want to keep them a bit more secure than on the hitch rack so the design needs to accommodate that as well as house the water/propane/power storage.
