Looking for some guidance on this install. Followed their video and got stuck when drilling holes through the roof. There are 8 holes total. The 2 rear-most holes drilled through with a 1/8 bit up to a 3/8 and I got the plus nuts installed. For the other 6 holes, I’m only able to get through it with the 1/8 bit. My 3/8 cobalt bit is barely doing anything. Seems like it’s reinforced steel. Using a Dewalt drill with a 20V battery if that helps. Any tips?

I'm 99% sure that it's all the same exterior steel. You sure your bit isn't just dull?

Also...I'm sure they've called it out but it's worth mentioning if they didn't...are you using a depth collar on your bits? You don't want to drill into the overhead SRS airbags.

Yep, using a depth collar. And yeah, I’ve tried 3 different new bits with no apparent progress. Guess I’ll try a titanium step bit to step up from my 1/8 to a 3/8.

Are you really drilling holes through your trucks roof?

Yeah, it’s done all the time. Understand that it’s not everyone’s thing though.

First time I ever installed a snorkel there was a certain amount of pucker factor drilling an 6" hole in the fender of a $40k vehicle.

But, once you get over the mental hurdle of the first one, all the rest of the holes across all the other vehicles are pretty easy. hahaha

Get yourself a cobalt bit set or cobalt unibit, set drill for slow speed, high feed pressure, and a sulpherized cutting fluid.
