I recently purchased the ATT wifi for the 2022 tundra.
Every time i get in truck and start it I have to manually connect my Iphone to the trucks wifi network . Why doesn't it connect automatically , like all wifi networks I have previously signed into and entered passwords?
It also will just drop the connection , I really need the wifi for wifi calling to enabled hopefully for better reception . I drop calls often with new ATT service.

IMHO the need to re-enter the WiFi password is a phone issue not a truck WiFi issue. Is there an option to remember the password in the Iphone settings?

Yes it is set autojoin the tundra att network . The same thing like my home WiFi . When I walk in my house my automatically connects to home WiFi.
Why it doesn’t do this in my tundra is my question

    OK, good point.
It could be because the Tundra is not broadcasting the WiFi SSID. This is an option available on house WiFi routers and access points. I don't have my Tundra yet, arrives next week, so can't play with it to try this idea out.

But maybe tell your phone to forget the Tundra's WiFi the have the phone search for available WiFi's and see if it "sees" the Tundra WiFi. If it does not, then the Tundra is not broadcasting the SSID even though it will accept connection requests...which currently your phone does since it remembers that SSID. Hope that makes sense :)

I have no idea if not broadcasting the SSID is an option in the Tundra, maybe you can play with the Tundra menus to see if it does.

    Hope this helps :)

Ohh ok this is because wireless CarPlay uses Wi-Fi Direct for higher bandwidth connection. The phone can’t connect to another Wi-Fi network while connected to wireless CarPlay.

So you’re saying my phone won’t connect to trucks WiFi while I am using car play? Although CarPlay is my phone.

Correct, phones can’t do multiple Wi-Fi connections at once. I would be curious to see if you could get it to work by plugging your phone into the truck for wired car play.

I don’t understand the how it’s multiple WiFi connections . If my phone is connected to the truck AT&T wifi and my phone is running CarPlay how is that at multiple wifi connections? I have carplay in other vehicle and wifi hotspot in the vehicle they would both phone and carplay worked . I used it to stream and make phone calls via wifi calling

Oh good question, first I should say this is mostly informed speculation (I’m a systems/software engineer), but Wi-Fi Direct connections are adhoc and designed for point to point, non-routable communications. Also I’m betting the att WiFi module is completely separate from the CarPlay module.
