Got around to de badging my new ride. Badges came off easy. Used heat gun, fishing line, and finished off with some 3m adhesive remover (the stinky stuff). Turned out flawless.

But those back stickers are a bitch. Have one left to do. Has anyone else had this problem? Maybee an eraser wheel? I've done this to the last 3 Toyota trucks I've owned and have not come across this Issue. Stickers are thick and have 2 layers.

LOL…..I’m in the exact same boat as you with the damn bed decals. Horrible time so far. Haven’t even finished one.

I wonder if your dealer could help or advise? Pretty certain mine would.

I've read the eraser wheel takes paint or clear coat off

The TSS decal is the only thing I have left to show for the ~6k TSS package so I left them on when doing my de-badge. Glad I did not attempt removal.

Not if you use it correctly.
One needs to be aware of the RRMs of the drill or driver.
    Keep the RPMs low.
If the RPMs are too high or you apply a constant pressure (too much heat), you're likely to damage the paint

I removed my TSS sticker with a 3M eraser wheel the day I bought it home.
Flossed the badges off with a fishing line and used the eraser wheel to remove the residue.
Used denatured alcohol for removing the sticky residue.

I've used it on a few vehicles to remove dealer stickers and decals.

I wouldn't touch Toyota paint with a heat gun, it's too fragile.

Personally, I would use a 3M eraser wheel over a cheaper knockoff.
This has examples of how much heat is generated using an eraser wheel and which one he feels works better.

I wouldn't trust myself with it lol. I've yet to meet a decal or badge I couldn't wrench off with spit and elbow grease.

I tried to peel that TSS decal off in one or 2 pieces and that wasn't going to happen.

Is the adhesive remove you used in a black can or red/white can?

I have a 3M eraser, just haven't attempted it yet. Probably finish it up this weekend and stop being a wussy.

    Lucky you.
It was a pretty chilly December day when I did mine.
That sticker didn't have a lot of flexibility.

Besides, I had fun using the eraser wheel.
I knew I was going to use it for my 2014 badges being that I used it to debadge my 2005..:D

No, @texasrho83 and I drive Gen 2.5 Tundras.

Your best bet would be a 3M eraser wheel.
Go slow and under whatever RPM is read on the wheel..
Mine reads 'do not exceed 4000 RPMs'.

Job complete. The 3m wheel worked like magic. Cordless drill and low rpm. Took my time and was finished in 15 minutes. No adhesive to remove and zero scratches. Yep these new TRD bed decals are a pain to remove! They don’t peel right off like the Tacoma ones. That’s how I got mine off. I was so scared but it came out perfect.

Yup, the TRD decals are not the easiest. I used a plastic razor scraper, a heat gun and some Goo-Gone and it took me 45-60 minutes on the first side. Tried without heat gun on the other side and it was off in ~30 minutes.

eraser wheel is a must still took me about 25 mins per side had to go pretty hard at it. ended up having to do i little bit of a buff job on the paint after as I pushed too hard with the eraser wheel so be careful. never came across a decal harder to get off.

I was going to post a thread on this because I went through the same ordeal. Just never got around to it.

I was trying to take off the rear bed decal and instantly noticed it was nothing like my tacoma or any of the numerous vehicles I’ve debadged in the past.

Tried with a heat gun and it only took off the top sticker layer. Tried goo gone and adhesive remover that did nothing. Drove to my local wrap shop for help and they had no clue and hadn’t seen anything like it.

Finally I searched on here and saw one post about the 3m wheel. Drove to auto zone and got one for 30 bucks and it did the trick. At first it left some cleaning to be done after but I just used a microfiber and some polish and it looks like glass.

Hopefully people read here before attempting with anything else because it simply won’t work.

Anyone have experience removing the tailgate raised lettering? Its a totally different type of sticker. I dont think the 3m wheel would work.

Cosmetics for for a pavement princess.
He isn’t wrong and neither or you I would suppose. If the operator is smart, you are right, if the operator is on the left side of the bell on IQ, he is right.

You can damage paint with a rotary when cutting and polishing if you don’t control the heat. I don’t trust myself, so I have a double action for that. A giant eraser spinning at 2 to 4k rpm’s can generate a lot of heat if someone is brain dead about what they are doing. Go look at reviews of some poor dudes erasing cars that aren’t clean, or stripping clear off on Amazon. They have then.

A man can try to build idiot proof tools. God will show man his fallacy and build a better idiot. God wins every time.

Finally killed my decals with the 3m wheel. Made easy work of it. Little bit of polish and like mentioned before….glass.

    So much better
