We are happy to announce a new option for the 2022 Tundra. We are starting to cut and Powdercoat steel plates for the 2022. We are going to eventually offer all of our products in steel but decided to start with the 3rd gen Tubdra.

We are using 10ga steel. Thicker than a 1/8”. Should be very heavy duty.

    weight is around 40 pounds.

We are using a textured black powder coat finish. We are doing the powder coat in house, and are working on our process to dial in the finish. We will likely scrap a few plates in the learning process but we want to make sure we get it down right!

    Check out my product!

Do your plates give access to the oil drain plug?

For the transmission pan, no. It isnt a super frequent service so dropping the plate to do it isn't a huge deal imho.

Engine oil drain pan is not covered by this skid. The engine skid plate has a hole to get to the oil drain pan.

How much does the aluminum version weigh? Compared to 40 pounds on the steel? Also, with the TRD OEM front skid plate, will this fit? Is there any gap between the rear end of the TRD OEM skid plate and the front of this cat/trans plate? thanks.

I bought one of these and it’s beefy! I’d love to see an engine skidplate made out of steel to match. Aluminum is soft and great for parking lots, but for solid protection I’ll go with steel.

Just ordered one. I cannot wait to get it.

Edit for a quick question. Does this need to be done on a lift, or is there enough room to get installed without a jacking up the truck?

I laid on the box it came in on the driveway. The install took me about 15 minutes with shortening a bolt on the rear drivers side.

very good, thanks @Jasco1. Appreciate the pictures.
Do you think there is ventilation for the transmission? Seems there are slot for the cat converters, but a bit concerned about the heat of the transmission. thanks.

Regarding the concern for transmission heat, I honestly think it’s not an issue since the 2022 and up Tundras have a dedicated cooling system for the transmission. I believe the older Tundras did not.

I did wonder the same thing. Just as home AC compressors are really not cooled by surrounding air, they are cooled by liquid (freon) running through them even though that may seem warm, it's cooler than the metal parts are. This should be the same for a trans that has a radiator out front. Classically that radiator is integrated into the engine radiator in my experience, separate I suspect in some/many vehicles. I've looked for such a radiator on the 3rd gen Tundra and could only find the engine radiator, massive in size, and the two turbo radiators. But there are enough mystery hoses running in and out of the engine radiator that it could very well involve the trans.

I'd like to hear a definitive statement though that indeed the 3rd gen Tundra has external cooling :)

The order I placed Saturday arrived today. Took me about twenty minutes to install. I have the RCI aluminum front skid, so I removed the back two bolts from that and slid the talons steel plate underneath and put in the 2 talons bolts. They are longer than the RCI bolts. Also loctited the fasteners. I found no issues in the plate’s finish at all. It looked great when it went on.
