Just cuz you can, should you? What are the benefits? Could the money be better spent on a charitable donation, investment for the future, etc? Let's see what kind of mods members think should be avoided and why.

For me, I will start with the locking fuel door. The quality is poor and a simple screwdriver will pop the hinges in two seconds. Over $50 that was pretty much a waste.

"Drag blocks". (Bagged vehicles intentionally dragging tow hitches/titanium blocks for no reason other than the sparkles.)

Reason: inverted ball hitches can break off and become bullets at high velocity. It tears up the roads. No one gives a shit about your sparkles.

Someone should convince this "crowd" to use magnesium and let Darwin solve it.

I fortunately haven’t done any to the tundra. All were planned with branded reliable products.

The Tacoma was a different story in the early 2016-2017 to mid 2018 with poor Amazon interior LED’s

other than that, I personally don’t have any avoid items. I have mods and an image I stick to. If it doesn’t fit what I want I avoid it in in general before I get tempted to buy it

I'm well aware and have recycled 3/16" plate sitting on my driveway right now. If life wasn't in the damn way, the fabrication would be well under way. I don't buy anything ready to go if I can make it for far less for the reasons stated in the intro to the thread.

My second one is the logo projectors I have installed in the door panels that project a design on the surface near your feet when the door is opened. Cool, yes! However, I should have given the cash to the animal shelter or other organization and maybe donated my shopping and install time as well.

In all seriousness I’d go back in time and cancel my custom fender liners I ordered back in Aug. Knowing now I’d make a custom intake etc. I’d also just do the LSK kit if I didn’t get such a good deal on my current kit. Since now I’m planning on doing that kit lol.

Not so much a mod, but a choice made when I bought my 2014.
I had them add pocket fender flares.

    1_zpsp5tfhjux_9b3e44159f133085c31479eff1c474a97d1481c6.jpg
    406FA7C3-D41A-4817-90D2-501F545C7B1F_zps_69ad39d77b1620a52031321335c766228c7d8a98.jpg

They look awful with the stock wheel offset.
Sure I could get new wheels (all aftermarket wheels are ugly & I like my TSS wheels) or wheel spacers (I don't trust them) and correct the offset.
    But nope.

But the biggest issue I have?
    I'm stuck with them.
I can't take them off because they've rubbed on the body for years and left grooves in the paint.
Grooves so deep paint correction can't hide them..

So if you're thinking about pocket flares for your truck with stock wheels, think again.
I should either have done without or opted for the low-profile flares..

You're not alone with the flares. I went with low profile flares, which led to PPF, rims, and custom center caps. All for looks pretty much. IMO it does look great. However, it was all just a want, and mostly a waste.

I should’ve avoided the lift kit with a spacer for front lift. I found 3 1/2” RC full strut and installed them. It made a nice difference. I want to replace the 2” rear block lift with new 2” leaf springs.

Another one, bump stop extensions. Should have just bought the Super bumps first. When I went to swap them, one nut broke off the weld inside the frame. So, I had to fix that. If you mess with these damn things, maybe some never sieze on the threads wouldn't hurt.

Did you do something to the bump stops so you don't bottom the shocks at full compression? If not, beware, they often get bent or broken off at the end attached to the lower control arm when they get compressed to the limit.

Yours misses has to be the most patient, understanding lady on the planet. I wasn't familiar with that kit, so I googled it.

Add 19-21 Tundra back to my list. FML .

That rear kit looks freaking amazing!!! I mean the front looks good too...but DANG!!

Be realistic about how "rad" you are when it comes to off-roading. I definitely didn't need ADS Racing adjustable compression reservoir shocks and Nitto Trail Grapplers on my Tacoma to drive mountain pass roads in Colorado 3x a year in 4LO at 2 MPH. The other 30k highway miles a year listening to the mud tires howl and the over-sprung suspension ride like a 3/4 ton work truck wasn't worth it.

Stock TRD Off Road trims in Toyota trucks are actually awesome. Should have given it more of a chance before I just had to dump thousands of $ in suspension/tires I didn't really need on my last truck. Instagram influencers and forum goers told me I just had to do it to be cool.
